Also, turbo hunt has gone cold

No matter, I'm off to QLD today (flying) so maybe i'll have a hunt up there for one

but everything you have written in your above post scares me that your a tuner builder.

Hmmmm everything that scotty has written is fact ,if your scared it should be from the realisation of the fact scotty is correct !!!! I'm not bagging the potential of a well set up 26 at all , I love them! But they are def not the be all and end all of rb's .

Go for gold scotty on 3.0 will be watching with interest , a " similar" set up to what heading for on the c34 ATM.

He is correct is he, I find it funny what he wrote, so out of all the rb's the rb26 has oil issues, interesting, maybe i should get ride of the 26 out of the autech and put a 25 in it, :whistling: maybe it's a bit of a fanboi love of scotty and rb25's lol want a 25 over a 26 please :yucky:

Ha ha your as funny on this site as you are on Calais turbo !!! Just keep your auto abuse up and your misguided opinions to ya self ! Afford lol have a close look at your builds champ . Let us know what massive power you make out of your godzilla 26 , lol no fan boy here mate !

how am i miss guided, and funny on this site as i am on calais turbo? my builds I like to spend money where it's needed, yeah we built a slapped together 26/30 with a spare head and a bottom end and parts that where lying around, everyone made out it was extremely hard to do, took a weekend! Have you? previous to that i've had a mild reon rb30 head on na rb30 bottom ends, considering my car was in burnout comps etc, I didn't really see much reason to put a massive built engine in something that has the potential of getting cooked, that perform very well pissed in 11's with 220kw, So i have better results at the drags on less power than most people but i'm miss informed, Abuse who did I abuse, I was told that the 26 was over rated and I should have stuck with the rb30 lol or better yet put a 25 in it. I'll let you know more probably of what 1/4 it does over what hp it makes, currently my stock 26 powered stagea seems to perform very well to most people modified rb25 stagea's lol and m35's, once again i'm miss informed.

Track rb26 as they have a little more development due to the group a era.

....400m and burnouts rb30! Either way you will always do better with hp development with the rb30!

In saying that if I had a car with an rb30 in it I certainly would not be going back to a rb26! But what do I know....

For the money you could have done a turbo ls1!

yes i know and that was on the cards, even had an ls1 there, but time is the issue and moving interstate is the next 4 days is the next one

as i've got a forged balanced rb26 in the shed, i would choose that over a standard na bottom end 30, and now i've got a goal to beat 4bidin down the 1/4 with an unopened 26! what have u run down the drags 4bidin?

I'd run a 26/30 all day given the option. Might have been able to power the old wagon into the mid 11's and below, either that or put that nos kit on that I had on the shelf.

oh and, this section has gone to shit

Unproven on the 1/4? Drags are for kiddies, as it all comes down to the launch, not any skilz... Airport runs would show a different result you would have to agree.

Come back to us when you have suspension that doesn't bottom out when you dump the clutch, and can make it around a track in a decent time. ;)

Drags for kiddies, least it proves power not a happy tuner! Car didn't bottom out either so as it's a heavy car and doing 1.80 60 foots I was extremely happy with what my standard 26 did! I'll have to get it on the dyno see what power it makes! What do u do Scotty to fudge the figure? Air temp near the exhaust?

    • This. A 3d wheel alignment is like $120...just take it to the shop. Since theres probably multiple adjustments that need to be made after changing something. Mine has front/rear lower arms, traction rods, tension rods, camber arms, toe arms, front upper arms, hicas kit, sway bars and coilovers. I measure from the edge of the bolt holes on the originals and set the same length on all the adjustable stuff to dial it as close as I could to OEM. Took it straight for alignment; it didnt feel right at all...after alignment, it feels perfect. Similarly i've just changed the springs on another car; and I still needed multiple adjustments to bring it back in spec.

    • Its a well known brand in New Zealand; its a rebrand of the Rhino RAV3.  I don't know what the wiring difference *is* between the rev.1 (installed about 15 years ago) and rev.2; but as you say I would think its reasonable that it uses the same immobiliser relay circuits. I had a look but couldnt see a similar harness; but didnt move things around since I didnt want to mess with it   It was one of AVS well known Authorised Installers; I spoke to AVS themselves about it but theyre unsure hence seeking advice more so from the skyline community who are more familiar with the actual car and its wiring. Im in Auckland; but the installer is on the other side of the city so hes very reluctant to come back to even look at it to confirm something isnt connected into the wrong wire.  I dont want to drop the name since they *did* do a really good job for the most part. Everything is very tidy and he fully replaced all the alarm wiring, all the sensors, the wiring to the door motors, installed a switch which was never installed in the first place...really happy with the alarm install itself..just not this one issue. We all make mistakes, if it is the alarm, I just want my fuel pump getting proper switched, fused, power as it was; without having to shell out for an auto electrician to switch a wire and tell me it was the alarm.
    • Even with the piston at TDC there was room for it to drop, but I don't think it can drop fully into the cylinder, the problem you have is that you need something pushing against the valve to hold it up so you have enough room to put the new stem seal on and the spring etc.  I used compressed air only because putting rope in the cylinder seemed a bit risky to me, I know people have done it countless times before like this. Overall it's a pain in the ass job. Honestly you'd probably be better off taking the head off because the risk of dropping something in the engine and the finicky-ness of it all is very stressful. If you are going to attempt it though i 10000% recommend a 36050 valve spring/keeper tool. I had both the traditional lever type and after doing 1 cylinder it was absolute pain to get those valve keepers in place, even with 2 people. That 36050 is amazing, you do have to push hard to get them in place but it works perfectly almost every time. Back to my actual issue I think my engine is just tired and old and the rings have gone bad. The comp numbers (cold, no oil) were: Cyl 1 -129psi Cyl 2 - 133psi Cyl 3 - 138psi Cyl 4 - 137psi Cyl 5 - 157psi Cyl 6 - 142psi   Cylinder 5 and 6 having the most carbon on them.
    • Who did you have do the installation? I actually know someone who is VERY familiar with the AVS gear. The main point of contact though would be your installer.   Where are you based in NZ?
