So tell me guys, are Skylines more plentiful in Australia, or New Zealand?

Some guy on Skylines Down Under says that Skylines are more common in New Zealand than Australia.

Now, last I heard, there were more people in either the Sydney or Melbourne metro areas than all of New Zealand, so therefore there must be more Skylines in Australia???

Oh, and another thing, why do New Zealanders always refer to Australia as "Aussie"? Thats like us referring to New Zealand as "Kiwi"... which we don't...do we?

i reckon aus to be honest, however the R34 skyline (full range) was locally sold in NZ nissan dealers whereas the r32,r33,r34 was never sold in aus except for like 500 32 gtr's before they got banned

When you go to New Zealand you see why it seems like there are more "Skylines" there. There probably are. The thing is most of them are NA 4 door R32's used as family cars and very much not looked after. I saw very very few turbos when I was there.

Its a bit sad to see them all driving around filthy as with unappreciative drivers.

whats also funny is you notice a particular model is that you see more of the non turbo vs the turbo model, look at the silva or 180sx, have ever seen the turbo version of it, more often that not you see the turbo charge model. where as with the r33 you more than likely see a gtst all the time

wierd

No statistics, but I'm an ex-pat kiwi (ex-nz, now ex-nz ex-oz - it's getting confusing!), and have family in nz. As such, I've travelled back and forth from oz to nz (and now japan to nz/oz) over the years, that I've been able to watch the import market expand there.

Personal observations:

* there are more skylines in australia

* there are more skylines per capita in NZ

I have very fond memories of being in NZ in the early 90s and seeing my first GTiRs, GTRs, etc - it had a great affect on a teenage mind.

Ok bein' a kiwi and all, thought I'd do a traffic count on the way home from work tonight.

I work in the CBD of Auckland which has just on 1 million people (about the same population as Hawthorne?) :D

On the 35km drive home from the CBD to my rural home, I saw 12 Skylines and 1 Stagea. 3 were R33, the rest R32.

On my last business trip to Melbourne (March 2003) I saw 3 or 4 Skylines during the whole 3 days (I was in the CBD only...) I'm sure there are heaps more than that around.

The other thing to take into consideration is that we have had high volumes of imports for quite a few years so there is many different flavours of Japanese performance cars around. Once upon a time every second car was a Legacy with a BOV, then it was WRXs, GSRs etc.

Cheers,

G

that's right, the other thing you'll find in NZ, as graeme mentions, is a host of very boring japanese cars that people (usually) don't bother to import to australia - sunnys, bottom-spec skylines, currens, cavaliers, laurels, carinas etc etc etc. A lot of these cars, versions mostly from the 80s and early 90s, are becoming very uncommon in japan - because most have already been 'cubed' or dumped on other countries.

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
