Thanks for clarifying Damo :)

I wouldn't mind seeing a picture gallery stored on the SAUSA website, though - facebook tends to reduce the quality of images. Would be good to have higher quality stuff on the SAU:SA website. Is that something we might be able to look at? :)

Yeah definitely, thats a question for Abe. The only thing we will have to account for is the amount of storage space we are allocated for the site. Anyone who has created a user account on the website can already upload pictures and videos.

Id like for the members to have a lot of the input on the facebook page too, putting up their pics and comments etc, this way we can share the info with anyone interested in the club, as well as share what we are up to with the other interstate clubs!

I sort of understand your commentary and links, but fact is I have been with FB for years and have never felt any variety or targeted marketing or anything - yet my profile, pictures and everything I do is quite public. I have none of the privacy settings turned down. So I don't understand exactly what you have to lose, and surely by connecting with friends/family/groups you have lots to gain? Just my 2c

I'm not sure if some of those comments are directed at me or Troy.

Either way, I'm not knocking anybody. The more different methods to communicate to members the better - my concern here is that facebook users may receive different information, etc than those on the member forums or on the SAU:SA website.

As long as the messages, announcements and information is consistent, I'm not concerned at all.

Now a small facebook rant because apparently it's 'bad' for me to show resistance against the collective:

I recognise that many people find facebook a convenient method for communication and keeping track of people. Whilst you can protect your profile from others - that's not where my concern lay. My concern lay with the company Facebook itself. I'm not a user of facebook, and never will be. Consider for a moment that you're getting a supposedly 'free' service from facebook to connect with people. How do you think they pay for their incredibly large server, and networking infrastructure? Can't see the product they're selling? Hint: It's the users, their connections and their information.

Every piece of information you store on facebook is recorded and used by facebook - from photos to communication with other facebook users. Even if you delete data, it's just marked deleted in the databases, not removed. The information on your account is shared with every application you use, too - something many users do not realise. Facebook is more than happy to share your information with third-parties.

Facebook has had a poor history of business practices, privacy and security. Mark Zuckerberg himself has a history of unethical behavior. I'm sure some of you would know about them tracking you visiting other websites, despite having logged out of facebook. I do not feel I can trust facebook, and I'm not comfortable using their service. I do not feel the need to share my life and interactions with a company that will subsequently sell that information on. I do not lose anything in my life from not using their services. I've lived the majority of my life without facebook - nothings changed for me. Please do not confuse me for a technical luddite either - I've been on the internet since 1994 and I work in the IT industry.

Feel free to do some research on your own, but I'll include some links:

I was asked on behalf of the committee to make that Facebook page, and given that only about half of the paid members 'like' it at this stage it's still been able to get responses and renew interest in SAU:SA. That last sentence comes from a non current SAU:SA member who has said he may now renew because it's easy to see what's going on.

You guys can boycot Facebook all you like, but it's something I use every day, and not just for social reasons. And so far, my identity hasn't been stolen.

It almost reminds me of the old iPhone vs. Android debate :P

If anyone has any suggestions for the Facebook page please let either myself or Damo know.

Righto, membership form all sorted, will eft the cash I guess, should I just put my sau username in the reference field on the payment? Looking forward to catching everyone @ the dinner. And getting free Merch :-)

^^^ If you Paypal'd your membership tonight you would be an SAU:SA Member and have access to the Members only forums by tomorrow. That means you could attend our Xmas dinner, have access to our exclusive calendar at a special members price, and I am sure since you are a new member we could even chuck you a free hat, lanyard and sticker at the dinner if you are lucky!

Just figured out how to reply to individual posts on my iPhone, damn forum is blocked at work, so yeah above post is in response to this one.

TBH, I think FB is the best thing that's ever happened....................if you're SAPOL or an Investigator :P

We love it.........makes our job a shitload easier!!

The info we pull out of photos alone is priceless.........even if peeps give no other info about themselves.

........and that's the very reason I don't have it.

thanks god !!! someone else thinks facebook has some moral/biz issues among other huge ones. knowing how it all works you would understand better like jenna or myself end FB rant

I was more concerned all the club info is shared in FB 100% not the website? .....it wasnt such a money thing about rejoining as it was a communication thing. I just enqiured about the admin fee's /one off for the first join up is all. but like elsewhere you get hit with them again if you have a gap in time.

be good to catch up with some of you guys again and meet the newbies face to face. since this site in SA is dead most of the time lately I was beginning to wonder if it was all on FB or NS or ?

I'll think about rejoining if I'm not black listed after telling pete he should buy the frangapani seat covers from george..lol and

even if I speak american still after 10 years in oz I pretty much just now called a boot/bonnet and accelerator... instead of trunk, hood, gas pedal..haha

I'll just blame abe since he lives straight down the road from me ....lol

Who would of thought that! Everytime there's a Facebook related argument it's you two versus everyone else

Actually, There is, it has been there ever since the Website Started, you will find it is the 4th link on the Left Hand Side of the Website. Only downside is you have to host videos on Youtube, and then insert the link into the gallery and it will play. Also it is a separate platform to the main website so you have to sign up again and create another account - I could possibly link the 2 databases, but I don't know Databases.

In regards to communication, If all Members were to sign up to the website, we can send out a MASS Email to everyone about events, news etc. I have been able to do that from the very beginning as well, but hardly anyone has signed up to the website.

Also in regards to the website, I have been VERY slack as of late with it...I should make some help files so the other Execs can learn to do stuff on the website also :P

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
