BP is the only fuel company that garranties there octane rating.

Shell from what I've heard is to hit and miss, God only knows where Caltex get there fuel.

The way i see it they are always a few cents of each other so why risk using anything other then BP

e85 is hard to find not all petrol stations sell that type of fuel at the moment

what fuel do you put in your car on a general basis

i cant run both, so i chose e85.. plus the servo is on the way to work for me so it works out.

Shell V-power - use for daily, I find I get better low end torque, but seems not to rev as eager. Saves me roughly 5 to 7 liters per week compared to BP Ultimate.

BP Ultimate - If I feel like fanging it, engine seems to spin more free - but I notice some low end torque disappears and my consumption is higher.

But if I need fuel I fill up with any 98.

How come i've never had any problems with all the fuels? even mobil 8000.

tbh, they all come from the same refineries.

thank god someone doesn't subscribe to this synergy is better than v-power is better than vortex etc. I have been running 98RON fuels in all brands since they were released in aus about 12 years ago. yes in the early days some brands seemed to be better than others. in the last 5 years I have used fuel from all 4 major brands (of which the op missed one in the poll) and cannot notice a difference CONSISTENTLY between any brand. and that's in cars from my 200kw bog standard liberty GT, to my fireblade, to my 250kw silvia to my 600hp GTR and everything in between. occasionally you will get a bad batch somewhere and it could be anyway. often just stale fuel, or water contamination but it's just as likely to be any of the brands.

seriously there is nothing between them on a regular basis. just buy whichever one you are near. driving past servos just to find your favourite brand is nuts. especially on a standard R33 GTST...

I suppose for a reasonably "powerful" car it's maybe hard to tell the difference, if any.

For weaker cars the difference is more obvious.

A Lexus IS200 6 spd manual (my daily) is somewhat underpowered.

For me I can tell the difference depending on the brand - I do 500km to 700km per week. I fill up on Shell due to 4c discounts and I find it slightly more economical, but refuses to rev as cleanly as on BP.

BP the engine seems to rev up better, but always finding low RPM power slightly weaker than on Shell, I have to hold on to gears longer or down shift one cog - therefore slightly less economy.

I can't say if one fuel gives more power over another - I don't know, but definately there is a difference in engine response.

Another thing is the servo's fuel turn over - which do not know - obviously the more the fuel turn over the more "fresh" the fuel will be.

Don't get me wrong - I'm no fuel fanboy - Which ever is cheaper or convenient I buy it. But when I want the better throttle response BP seems to deliver in that regard.

When i refer to BP and Shell, I mean Ultimate and V-power.

My very un-scientific, ass dyno.

ANY 98 ron that I drive past when the needles is on 1/4, Ive tracked the car on everything and have never noticed a difference.

When E85 is everywhere Ill get it, but until then it is not worth the trouble of upgrading injectors and pumps and stuff.

Carrying a 20ltr jerry of PULP to a track day is bad enough.

seriously there is nothing between them on a regular basis. just buy whichever one you are near.

+1

I have used both BP98 & Vortex 98 (Shell only have up to Ron 95 in WA) & I notice f**k all difference.

I drive to different servos regularly but not because I'm picking a brand but I'm trying to find the cheapest fuel (places varies around 5 - 10c/L) on that day in an attempt to squeeze out every last cent saved (in true cheap arse Asian style...) :whistling:

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
