Anyone using the 14point7 wideband?

I've been conyemplating one for ages but that plx one has a much nicer display and would be easier to mount

I have owned 2 product from Alan To,

a Jaws Wideband - http://noddle.webuda.com/JAW%20wideband%20O2/index.html

and a NAW_OEM - http://noddle.webuda.com/NAW_OEM/index.html

both were DIY

I used the ADis Display with the NAW_OEM, as seen in the second link.

Both work very well, I'm still using the NAW_OEM in my Turboed 240K.

Here's a youtube vid showing how it's configures with Megasquirt

Good to hear

What is the OEM wiband thing? Can someone explain it to me please ?

The one I have is not sold anymore to the public,

from his forum..

"NAW_OEM will only be available for OEM customers, it will no longer be available to the end user."

you should have a look around his site

http://14point7.com

and the forum

http://14point7.com/forum/index.php

and for his older stuff you can see some on it here.

if you are talking about the "SLC OEM", I have one that I have not put together yet,

I was going to use it in my other car, but decided to keep it as a 'spare', incase my NAW_OEM unit dies.

Yeah but what is the slc OEM? The description is very technical but doesn't actually say what its for

SLC OEM is a miniature Lambda Controller suitable for integration into your electronic designs.

The module is complete and requires only an external 5v power supply. The module runs cool and does not require a heatsink of any kind.

Interfacing options include a 0-5[v] Linear Output and I2C.Up to 32 SLC OEM units can share the same I2C bus.

it does not have a display, you could use the ADis AFR Display,

Well the product in the comparison is different from the one in the link however those results are a little worrying...

I find it diffcult to believe that a US company would go around making wildly false claims about the accuracy of a wideband AFR meter.

The good 'ol US litigation lawyers would have a firggin field day with that!

Accurate to 1 AFR is a very long way off the claimed <0.1 AFR

I would suggest that the device was faulty or the testing flawed in some way

(which appears to be the case if you read on from the test results in this thread)

Depends how much you buy into that comparison a couple of pages back.

PLX was one of the most inaccurate widebands in that comparison. Kit looks sexy though, I'll admit.

Still looking at the MTX-L. Haven't been able to find anything bad about the new range, seems all the negatives are written about the older Innovate gear.

Do any other AEM UEGO users have an issue with their gauge whining? I'm not sure if it's supposed to do this, but I would have thought not. My gauge whines really badly, it sounds almost like an exhaust leak. It's farkin annoying glare.gif

I am about to bite the bullet and buy one of these:

http://www.plxdevices.com/wideband.php

Can someone please confirm that this will work with:

1) 0-5V wideband input for my FC Datalogit.

2) 0-1V narrowband input to my PowerFC to completely replace my 02 sensor with the wideband Bosch sensor.

I think I will also buy an oil pressure sensor too:

http://www.plxdevices.com/sensors.php

Where would be the best place to tap this sensor into the system? I would like to keep the stock oil pressure sender in the oil cooler/warmer if possible.

Thanks!!!

I have ordered mine as well

Oil pressure is also next on my list...

If you have a look at the specs in that link the outputs appear to be suitable for your requirements... there is even a link on using it to replace your current stock 02 sensor!

I finally put in my order for both the wideband and the oil pressure sensor too, will let everyone know how they go!

Hmmm sounds a bit weird. mine makes no noise at all that im aware of. definetly can't hear it with the car on if it does. Its definetly coming from that gauge?

Yeh it is. At first I thought it was my dump pipe leaking as I couldn't get one of the turbo bolts in tightly (THAT bolt with the JJR bellmouth).

But then when I installed my new turbo I replaced all the bolts with high tensile Allen key bolts, so I got them all done up nicely. Took it for a drive and noticed the whining was still there, so I stuck my ear next to the gauge and it's definitely coming from that.

  • 4 months later...

can someone tell me if all widebands are able to be plugged into the ecu or do only some have this feature?

I've been told my ECU has a learning function that can be quite handy if set up correctly but not sure if any wideband kit will do the job..

Not all of them have an output

Best to check before you buy. My tech edge one has an output but some ecu's require manual configuring where some are pre done for the tech edge. Same goes for other brands

So check your ecu software for a list of what is already setup. Iirc the adaptronic has drop downs for most common wide bands

The AEM has an analog output which is what I use for logging with the power fc

Check if that's what you need. should be it but. should just have to set the voltages that correspond with AFR's (these values are given in the AEM manual) but double check with your ECU manual to see if this is all it needs

    • Yeah well per the video it took 15s for the stock unit to start up....even if I give it a few seconds discount for starting that is at least 12 sec before you get a reverse camera if you are trying to leave a park.  The android unit is way faster, but 2016 for the stock unit is a long time ago in consumer electronics
    • Yea that’s why I said ima test them with multimeter and see the reads.
    • Only at idle. Isn’t a problem when rev it seems.
    • @Haggerty This seems silly to ask, but are you confident in your ability to tune the Haltech?
    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since. Found my 'lucky' coin underneath the rear seat too The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44&t=6s
