With Turbolight - if I ever left as long as 5,000km and didn't top it up between changes (think I only did that once) I lost nearly 2L. Considering that's more than half the SR's capacity that's terrible. And it never noticeably burnt it so yeah...needless to say I started checking the oil more and eventually decided the oil just didn't suit my car. My ex's SR S15 was exactly the same, though his seemed to disappear even quicker.

With Penrite you'd nearly drain as much as you put in.

As I mentioned my RB lost Turbolight as well (although not quite as much), but again, not suited to that engine. Tappets were very noisy running Turbolight.

Too many bad experiences with Turbolight in my corner.

hmm maybe i should stop using turbolite. no wonder im losing oil i thought something was eff'd in the car.. i had a look at everything over sunday and nothing was wrong but i was loosing oil..

might move along to a 15w50 especially for the summer.

Lol barbs I'm not that Lebo :P

Johno, no it doesn't lol!

If I don't get rid of it soonish I'll splurge in some camber arms, bushes etc. mate rekons it's a rear wheel bearing causing the arse to play around.

Wheel bearings make a humming noise on acceleration/deceleration (think a plane taking off) when they go, and you'd be able to move the wheel side-to side with a shake and hear the noise when you spin it with the wheel off the ground. I have had many a wheel bearing replaced (5 on the Pulsar and 1 on the R34.)

That's the funny thing, so many people find it disappears on their SR but people keep buying it 'cause it's got 'turbo' in the name, and turbo must mean it's better.

Try the Penrite Semi Synthetic 15W60 I recommended and report back on how the car runs and how the oil situation is going. It improved not just my SR but others I know considerably. Ignore it's blurb on the website but this is the one I'm referring to: http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/motor-oil/hpr/hpr_15 - it doesn't really sell itself with 'older engines/pre-97 family cars' but it's not very expensive so it's not going to hurt to try. I ran it on the track and on the street. It'll give your SR plenty of protection going into a hot summer. They've got nice full synthetics too but they're not really that necessary unless you're making massive power or it's a newer engine.

you replace just the bearing or whole hub? i need to do my rear left

Whole rear drivers side hub, Nissan had one in stock in the country at the time. It wasn't cheap, at all.

Stupid ripple strip, it ruined my sideways.

i just bought it because it was 1 down from 300v.

the SR I have has only done about 30-40,000km.. its a built motor.. and i did notice after doing the first service with turbolite the forgie rattle was a tad louder.. no harm in trying.. ill see how it goes or might just go the 100% synth if the price gap isnt too large.. ill report back. was doing the second service on it coming weekend.

plus mine takes about 5 and a bit litres with the ARC sump extension and oil cooler..

lol aint it all the same? just a different company supplying the credz?

Sort of the same. Depends on where you work. But CA is alot harder than CPA.

Had alot of people at our firm come from CPA backgrounds, try the CA and then fail hard. Failure rate in CA is pretty high. And when someone fails at work they usually cry, because you've just wasted money and 1/2 a year studying your arse off outside a full time job for nothing...

can get bearing from just jap for like $160 compared to 250 from nissan probably just go that way

I was in a bit of a hurry to get my car back so I didn't search but Nissan were damn expensive I agree.

Oh that's pretty young, it shouldn't be losing oil like that! Maybe a full synth seeing as it's still a young engine? If it's in your budget that is: http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/motor-oil/sin/sin_engine_oil_10

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
