It cost me $400 to respray front bar in Midnight Purple, dark blue is common colour.

Birdmang, $350 and tell them to STFU or demand 'happy endings' for both girl and mother included in the $640.

How much cheaper?

Break it to him by slapping sense into him and buy a Skyline - gearboxes doesn't break into pieces on stock power in Skylines.

Only about 1k cheaper than your average 04 WRX sedan. He doesn't like Skylines because he thinks only try hards drive them or something, his last car was an 03 mazda astina he wrote off

So, get a phone call today from mother of the girl I had a lovetap with in peak hour traffic the other day. 2001 E36 318i, I scratched her rear bar a little (it already had a few scratches) and she said on the day that she probably wouldn't bother chasing it up...I offered to pay for touch up paint etc. Went on our merry ways. Now I have this phone call from the mother saying she took the car to a panelbeater and got a quote of $640 to respray the rear bar...am waiting on confirmation from panelbeater mate, but does this shit sound excessive to you guys? I would have thought $300 tops for a rear bar, it's a bloody 10 year old pov spec beamer :/

They probably told the father/bf etc about it and thought hmm maybe we can get the whole bar touched up etc at your expense..

Also, a confirmation from the panel beater means f**k all really he/she's probably

her mate/relative etc

Edit: aparently the panel beater is your mate not hers..

Never mind

Yeah definitely trying to get a fresh bar out of me or profit from it. The girl couldn't even find the damage on her bar and said she probably wouldn't bother chasing it up. Said her dad fixes up cars etc., so no doubt he's had his input about it and assumes I'm naive. Anyway if her mum calls me again I'm gonna tell her I don't want to hear from her, I'll only speak to her daughter because that's who I had the accident with. I'll tell daughter that I'll get it repaired, or you can take $350, or we can go to VCAT and waste our time for much the same outcome. Might call a couple panelbeaters on Monday.

Thanks guys.

I asked a panel guy / spray painter that i was with when I said $650 probably should of mentioned that

Cool thanks for that. I'll see if I can find any cheaper on Monday, if they are all around 600 then bad luck I guess, I'll be more content with paying it.

get her one of them mobile dent/scratch removers they do a mint job on the spot and wont charge anywhere near that (if it's a small area)

my brother did the corner section of his rear bar (scratches/paint scraped) from memory cost him $150-$200 and the colour matching was spot on

Hey may any idea the name of the place that did it? Someone backed into my bumper in Coles carpark and left without leaving details (barstards!). No panel damage only cracked paint on rear bumper:(

Problem is proving it was damaged prior to the incident unfortunately

This, it's a shit part of the law but if you're the last person that hit someone then bad luck for you. No wonder people drive off from accidents all the time, I'ma put one of those constantly recording cameras in my car now. All I'd have to go off is the damage to my front bar which is just a single paint chip...but it already had scratches, chips and stress cracks beforehand which would probably work against me trying to prove that the impact want great enough to do the damage she's claiming. My number plate doesn't even have anything on it! Anyway I ain't gonna think about it anymore or I'll have spent $640 of my time just thinking about the shit. They only got one quote, so will just talk to other panelbeaters on Monday and see what they give me to go on.

    • It turns out that Setrab make a fan specifically for the oil cooler which is great and I've installed it with minimal swearing. I removed my 2x 12in push fans from the front of my aircon condenser and wired them into this. My main thermo fans kick on when I use the aircon anyway and would effectively already be working as puller fans through the condensor which is infront of the rad. The push fans (understandably) didn't really do much in the config they were previously in so now they're out. Now we're on to the "Oil fan doesn't really do much either!". Yes I'll duct it next if it does nothing in heavy use which it shouldn't. But hey, the object exists and fits great and is cool. Let me have this. The car is still in the "do my fittings leak oil now? do my wheels actually rub?" phase. I did a spirited drive on them and didn't hear or feel anything. Then I got back home and noticed there were grind marks on the inside of the rims, though I couldn't see where they were touching I got out the grinder and attacked the suspects. Note: I do not know how to use a grinder. Then I realised I had dragged my new rims across my concrete driveway before I did this drive. I didn't think I had damage at that time when I briefly looked...... but remembered this occurred after I did all the angle grinding. The grinding on the wheels in some very specific spots. It's not around the whole rim for example, which lines up with dragging it across concrete more than hitting a suspension component for even 1 full rotation. So everything is currently painted and taped up and I need to test it some more to see if it really IS rubbing, but from inside the car it doesn't feel like it is. In other news I attempted to do a before and after comparison of the heads/cam upgrade thing. Dynos lie, everything is in different measurements. Here is the data from the sandown back straight. Car go faster than before. Vroom vroom.
    • Here's my base ignition. +3 correction to redline when shooting water/meth which is always on. Looking at my old ignition table, I should be able to add 1-2 degree's next time I'm on the dyno.  Let me know your thoughts.
    • Given what I know now - same haha, but this was 12 years ago with second hand 740cc Nismo injectors in my S15 daily, I was too busy hunting elsewhere for the issue to even look at the injectors, running through some cleaner was a happy coincidence haha
    • Not a terrible idea. But if I ever had concerns that my injectors were sufficiently dirty to be causing me a problem, they would be out of the engine and onto the actual injector cleaner/testing bench.
    • Run some injector cleaner through it I had a similar issue that plagued me for months, even tried replacing the cat. If one or more injectors are blocked up the ecu sees ping so pulls timing and makes the tune rich overall, you'll see black smoke coming out of the exhaust and like me assume it's running rich but it could only be one or two cylinders  $10 bottle of injector cleaner and the next time I hit boost it pumped out a huge plume of black smoke, cleared the blockage and then ran great, if that's not the issue it's only a cheap thing to try haha
