New or second hand Rim?

Hilux if you can afford it over a Navara, they hold their value much better than any of the other utilities. But don't get anything less than a 3 litre diese Hiluxl...the 2.8 diesels and 2.4 petrol etc. have piss weak gearboxes and are all flogged out on the second hand market. People expect way too much from them.

Navara D22 turbo diesel is a nice car to drive and has good pulling power but the gearboxes aren't up to the task and a mate who worked at Nissan HQ in customer complaints, reckons the most common complaint he dealt with was the clutch wearing out on newish Navaras...pretty easily dismissed by warranty, as it's a driver input...

He had some funny stories lol, people calling up with 10 year old cars wanting things replaced under warranty.

looking at new at the moment, as it's for my old man and knowing how little time he spends on cars he'd be better off with the more reliable/longer lasting one.

he's been wanting a Hilux for ages but i always talk him out of it and try to convince him to go for the Navara instead just coz i think it looks better :/ guess i'll ease up on that now and let him go for the Toybota. will most likely be that SR5 model or whatever it's called

Why not el capitain?

Why do some folks carry this mentality that our engineering and production is inferior to the Japs or what the rest of the world has to offer?

Just look at the Star Ferris wheel observation deck in melbourne. Our engineers used shitty china metal, heat wave came along, cracked the shit out of it. taken apart, sent to japan. up until now (few years?) still not f**king finished. We must be f**king great!

because it is

I prefer the Navara too, but Toyota make bloody reliable ugly cars. And when it's a workhorse you gotta compromise there.

There are much worse cars out there than Australian designed/built, particularly for our Australian conditions. That being said, based on the previous Ranger I'd be pretty cautious about the next one.

It was always the Japs for reliability and cost, Euros for luxury and safety and the Westerners for powerhouses built to withstand our conditions. We aren't inferior when it comes to engineering, but limited by budget sometimes. Gotta keep in mind that our cars cost a lot more to manufacture than other countries with bigger populations. Even then our cars do pretty well against the rest of the world these days, a lot better than they did in the 90s. We are world leaders for a lot of technologies though - MoTec ECUs is one that comes to mind.

lol @ you both

What you need to understand is that the worlds decisions and choices arent driven by Engineers.

Marketting/Finance/Shareholders set unrealistic demands with fk all money and expect the world.

Wont make this a tl;dr but have a think; What gets more money? Redesigning the powersteering system or adding iPod connectivity? You can sell a lot more cars advertising iPod connectivity than mentioning redesigned brake master cylinder.

If it was Engineers final decision, everything would be designed & built correctly, but unfortunately world is driven by money and the yuppies who pass through a finance diploma make all the calls.

Hey guys, thanks to the shitty economy in Europe, i'm now back in Australia and I don't have a car.

I need your advice on what car I should get. I have a budget of around 10-12k, and would prefer not to get another skyline. I've been thinking along the lines of an s14 200sx, or maybe a WRX, or even an N/A Supra. Even thought about waiting a bit longer and saving some more to get an xr6 turbo. Not sure what to do. Advice needed! What would you buy if you had this kind of budget?

Buy my car for 12k

lol @ 200sx Jonoe posted...equivalent R33 GTS-T would be like 7/8k. Though that one does seem overpriced for the mileage. Face it Astro, nothing gonna beat a Skyline for the dollar value. In your position I'd consider a Rex though.

Buy my car for 12k

lol what happened to mr keen for fourteen with a RWC...

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
    • Yes sir am asking is there possible way from aem tuner from wiring pins
    • Have you checked cam to crank timing and confirmed balancer marks are correct?
