Feel so fake writing my CV. Keep tempting myself to be completely open/honest and throw in a bunch of swear words about the pricks at previous jobs or how shit the work was etc.

I had a lecture at uni a few weeks ago where the guest lecturer told us that in this day and age, we shouldn't need a resume to get a job. Appartantly it should all be done by word of mouth and "head hunting". But I had a job interview at ExxonMobil not long ago where I had to bring a resume.. I guess I failed that guest lecturer.

Well people use shit like "LinkedIn" these days, which is basically an online CV...only with even more bullshit and a photo...but ads on Seek still want a CV and cover letter emailed to them, so nuts to your guest lecturer. He doesn't account for people quitting their job or starting out fresh...hard to get headhunted when you're not working in the environment. Word of mouth can be pretty powerful though, if you're networked well enough.

Headhunting is particularly useful in the world of large corporations, where promotions (role promotions) are practically non-existent and it's in the company's best interests for an employee to stay just where they are / give the occasional salary revision. It is quite common in industries where there is a lot of outsourcing between companies (e.g. IT), creating opportunities to meet. Very appealing to the employee with not much in the way of a bottom-to-top career path ahead of them within the same company.

Ergo, vis-a-vis, concordantly...

I see where thi is going.

entry level jobs you need a resume end of story.

they want to see you ahd a part time job your turned up to, or a degree you did.

past that.....

well you still need a resume.

but it is becoming a case of don't call us we will call you.

I check my linked in profile maybe every 4 weeks or so, and it is full or "consulting" or HR companies.

they get a job description then head out and look for some-one.

then due to the fact I was lazy and left no number they call the company main switch and start harassing them to find me.

but every one of them asks me to send a current resume in.

I can't stand the website. I've been advised to create a profile, which I'll probably do one day...because it seems to be the way the world is heading...but people make themselves sound like superheroes working for bluechip companies, when they're really just a glorified PA...

I've got a linked in profile, pretty much look like a fool if you don't in the i.t world, my old employer actually made the whole team make a profile and got a professional shoot done for faces on the company website :\ new employer said they checked it out, amongst other things like facebook etc.. gotta be careful what you put on the web.

It's a good way to show experience that you cant fit on CV though, also the photo part is okay I guess so they know you aren't a pleb.

Link?

it's just not worth it for 5kw and a 6 spd gearbox

i'm not planning to massively track it, maybe a couple days a year tops.... it's just my idea of a baby freindly daily so the 5 spd should do me

    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
    • Look at @Kinkstaah's thread on the issue.
    • Hmm not really, I'd say its race car life or modified car life when you make 3 or 4 times the power Nissan designed the car for lol.
    • I'll let others with more breakage chime in, but I can't think of anyone who had a problem with the standard centre plate before they had a problem with the standard gears - the plate generally just gets replaced for safety when the gearset is upgraded. As for the gearsets, its not like they are OK at 600Nm and break at 601. Their longevity is a combination of how much torque you are making and how gentle you are on shifts (or not).
