VWL whiskey contingent... From the spirits room at Harrod's

would taste good with LA Ice Cola

It is selfish. Mental issues or not, the kid has no father now and this is a direct result of his father's actions. A man is his own choices. Who can you blame but him?

Suicide is a selfish act, but to assume and generalise such an incident is the kind of bigotry beyond blue are trying to prevent (as well as suicidal thoughts too).

is someone to blame if he had committed suicide because his child had died?

you are putting it in the same category as the man who threw his child off the west gate. and they are totally not comparable.

anyway, the article was posted to help raise awareness in homes and workplaces, not to play the blame game.

How am I putting it in a category with old mate who played a high stakes game of midget tossing? You just did that, not me lol

And yes. If he committed suicide because his child died, he is to blame for his suicide. A man is his own actions. Life can be downright shit at times but you always have a choice in how you play those cards. Even with a gun to your head you have a choice to fight back or resign yourself to death. Don't mistake this for me not feeling sorry for the guy in the article, I do, but I refuse to look past the fact he put his own personal issues and suffering above those of his kid and entire family...and that he couldn't see a way out. He's either selfish or a dumbass or both...I do think the latter.

The depressed and the dead need not be sacred and exempt from the harsh truth that is some people are not fit for this world. Truth be told a lot of people are kept alive by our attempts to combat evolutionary theory and "survival of the fittest" with things like centrelink etc.

On the subject of fifo workers, is there such thing as fifo personal trainers/fitness instructers?

Yeah, work for 2 weeks then call in sick for 2 weeks, do that multiple times :P

I say if you had a kid you shouldn't be working FIFO in the first place; dumb shit.

I disagree with this on so many levels I barely know where to start.

lets just go with this to start with.

Growing up my Dad was a dairy farmer.

he would work 5:30am to 6:30 pm 7 days a week 365 days a year.

as kids we would go to sleep around 8-8:30

so we would see him to max 2 hours a day completely exhausted.

so 28 hours per fortnight.

my brother in law is a foreman for a mine FIFO

1 week on 1 week off.

so he does not see his child for 1 week, then comes home and spends he every waking moment with her for the next week.

so say 12ish waking hours a day..for 7 days.

84ish hours of non exhausted time per fortnight.

so him being "a dumb shit" is nearly tripling his time with his kid.

he can be there for 1/2 of his kids sporting events school events and such more than I can say for any farmer I know.

in fact nearly any self employed people

so does this mean no farmer should be having a kid?

(also a reason that farmers have one of the highest suicide rates of all http://www.huffingtonpost.com/terezia-farkas/why-farmer-suicide-rates-_1_b_5610279.html)

I just think that there too much hate for FIFO and people just don't understand it.

You make it sound like he was forced to work FIFO?

Regular appearances, even if less time spent with the kid overall, are more important than the long absences in his life - this kid has the equivalent of divorced parents with custody visits because he was away for 4 weeks and then spent 1 week with his kid. Also keeping in mind his kid probably had school or kinder too, and also keeping in mind most people's jobs aren't farmers. You can take time out of a regular job to see your kid or attend events if you have to. FIFO you're stuck there for weeks unless it's an emergency you have to fly home for.

And he obviously didn't have enough time spent with his family for him, hence he necked himself.

I don't see why there's an argument when the article that was posted here was full of support for the notion that it's not the kind of work a family man should be doing, and that even single men should be careful about their mental stability when pursuing that style of work.

Nah I disagree, It's just our media hating on mining FIFO

Farmers in au 150K+

FIFO expected to hit 63K 2015.

who get more attention and hate?

add to that look at the source

a new limited paper, ie hearld sun equiv in WA.

basically they hate the fact some-one earns more than then so tried to make the rest of the population feel better about themselves.

not spotting the same articles about, IT consultants, those that do contracts in places like UAE/kuwait, and for that matter pilots.

all who probably spend longer from home

anyhow I'm stopping now as just over this topic.

I don't think anyone is hating on FIFO? They just doing a devils advocate article warning people it's not all it's cracked up to be, which is only the other side of the story that we've been hearing for years, i.e. jump ship to WA and you can make a shit ton of cash. I say just journalists looking for a story relevant to modern times cause FIFO is often talked about and everyone knows someone doing it; I doubt they have a personal vendetta about the subject matter. I said it before and I'll say it again, there's a reason people doing the work get paid a lot of money - it's not cause they were lucky enough to stumble across the greatest job in the world. More power to those who work it and feel it is, though.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
