Hey guys i have been looking on ebay recently on stage 1 ecu chips. They seem very cheap and good bang for your buck. But i before i shell out some money on a tune that could possibly harm my motor. So i was wondering if there was any trusted tuners on SAU who make the eprom chips. I have the following mods.

-FMIC

-3" stainless from the cat and i believe the dump is aftermarket

-RB25 turbo with steel internals. Running stock boost but would like 14 psi through it with the chip and a manual boost controller

-Pod filter with a homejob CAI

-650HP fuel pump

And i reckon that is all that the tuner would need to know i reckon rest is stock pretty much. Silvertop RB20

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I want to spend very little but want to be safeish with my tune. At the moment it runs rich as and the mechanic reckons that its the ECU.

From looking this name has popped up CEF11E and apparently his alright. Anyone have his number?

Cheers Reece

I can do you some remote mail tunes... il help you out with the hardware you need to buy so you can re-burn the chip everytime i modify the bin file.

just need to go to a dyno and mail me the logs, il send you the revisions within 5 minutes to re-try.

2 hours of dyno time should do the trick

pm me if you are interested.

I Put one of those chips in years ago when I didn't no anything about turbo cars. They suck did a dyno run stock chip and with that chip installed made a extra 10 kw but the tune was all over the place I ended up taking it out because I was told it could pop the motor not worth the 50 put that 50 to a proper tune unless you like blown motors.

No please...stick that ebay 'chip' in your car.... then a month after you do, come back on here and ask whats required to rebuild a motor.

Go to a tuner and speak to them, if not, then i hope you have a spare 10k to rebuild your motor.

far out man, talking about scaring the crap out of him.

its not all that bad. he can start chipping it with a stock eprom and get a few revisions to get the car running good.

poor dude, probly took a hammer to the chip by now lol

There are people who will make you a chip by mail order but to do it properly you should give them the car to tune. Tune is not the place to cut costs.

I outlayed big money for my tune. Close to 1k. Waste of money. Pre tune, I specifically asked the tuner to install my new injectors and check my fuel system for flow, pressure etc. Car was tuned with poor flow and they just compensated for that by adjusting my FPR to raise the pressure.

Money doesn't mean shit, you need an experienced tuner who isn't going to take your money and tune with their eyes closed. Obvious signs and symptoms should give any tuner reason to stop before they proceed and take your money.

In all honesty, learn the basics, data log and tune your self. Run it as safe as you like and when you are happy with the feel be done with it. Pull timing, adjust your AFR's then give it some timing across the loads. I think its harder to tune cruising and low down then it is to tune for power.

But he is talking about an ebay 'tuned' chip'.

I agree with sarge, get a datalogit and wideband and knock sensing kit and tune ur car yourself ONLY if u understand mechanically how things work inside an engine, this setup will cost more than $1,000 by the time u buy it all, then there's the danger of roadtuning, or the added cost of hiring a dyno.

BSA seems to be the only one here who has actually tried one so he would be best to listen too, he installed it then removed it once he saw the tune

Not in a skyline, but my NA 300ZX had an "ebay chip" when i bought it. AFR's dipped into the low 11's on the dyno under WOT and the timing was advanced heaps, gained a few rwkw going back to a stock ECU.

If you want to try it then go ahead just make sure you dyno it straight away dont drive it to be safe. The chip I got was tuned to a stock setup with basic mods. I couldn't run anymore then 11 psi on a stock rb20 turbo or I risked detanation and that was on a 18 degree day. I wouldn't do it again but he may have changed the tune and could be alright. People pay good money for decent tunes for a reason.

    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
    • the top black section is bonded to the silver section with some form of rubber. I assume to isolated NVH from the box
