its danger is measured in its potential......yes any car is dangerous if misused. but skylines are designed to go fast, high acceleration etc. they're the atributes that make a car dangerous........

as a completly different example. a machinegun locked away where no one can get it, is still a dangerous weapon..........

mx5 good call

im getting a 89 r32 GTR for my first car cheap but the car wont be in too good condition when i get it ill have to do afew things to it then it will be just as quick as any other gtr

16k- 22k depending on condition of the car from www.j-spec.com.au tell craig RiceCooker sent you ^^

Yes, but it's still not dangerous until you get someone who wants to shoot people with it, or doesn't know how to use it. Yes, a skyline CAN be dangerous, but any car can be dangerous, its just stupid to say a skyline is BUILT to be dangerous. Skylines are built for speed, no doubt about it, but that doesn't make them dangerous till you start USING that power. If you get someone who never drives over say 30km/h in a Ferrari or something (yeah right) that's not very dangerous at all is it? but if that person starts doing 200km/h then it becomes dangerous. it all depends on the driver.

"its just stupid to say a skyline is BUILT to be dangerous. Skylines are built for speed"

Speed is what makes a car dangerous........i'd rather be hit by a barina doing top speed than a skyline. so if speed is what makes it dangerous and skylines are built for speed then skylines are built to be dangerous...........

makes sense

Not really dude, a skyline doing 140 and a barina doing 140 they both hurt.

The only reason I said that a skyline would be a bad car as first choice, is because you could reach 0-100 about 90 seconds faster then a barina, ie..

coming around a corner, hey man. fully sik bro check this stuff, floors it.. loses it.. sideways into a parked car.. can't see that happening in a barina.

and even if it did happen in the barina, what car would you rather repair, insurance wise.. a barina.. or a skyline... obvious, very obvious choice.

and yes, its possible a young guy could drive sensibly behind the wheel..

but if its his FIRST car.. and he's a young guy, in a skyline.. just, no.. don't risk it.

Not trying to put you off mate, but if you think waiting until you have your P's is going to bring you all the experience necessary to safely and affordably own a Skyline; Please think again.

I don't think boys brains start thinking like mens until your around 25 years old, at which point you start to realise your not invincible and understand the consequences of poor decisions.

This is because you have had about 8 years driving shit boxes, learning from these mistakes and are still alive to tell the story.

By all means, be a car nut like the rest of us; but take on board other peoples advice from their experiences and don't learn it the hard way.

Good Luck again!

DRIFTO

I think any of the more experienced drivers will tell you that driving is something that takes years to master. Not a few weeks.

I use to think I was fast out on the circuit. Now I realise how slow I was.

An owner of a gun has a choice of:

(a) shoot any living animal he sees for fun

(B) Go to shooting ranges

This can be compared to an owner of a skyline:

(a) Speed and do idiotic things

(B) Obey the law and only speed in controlled areas (Drag strip)

As cars and guns vary, it doesnt mean that the owner must push it to the max. In my opinion an idiot with a pistol would be more dangerous than a police man with a rifle. The maximum output of the car/weapon could influence people to do stupid things but if the owner is mature he/she will know its not worth it. In the end I think it all comes down to the matuarity of the owner not the power under your foot.

1. Mine has been for me :)

2. Yeah they are pretty good but to ya research.

3. LOL if you want to be looking at the latest HSV’s and Tickford’s in ya mirror then a Skyline is for you.

4. Not hard but expensive, I have 3rd party thats it :P

5. Not much if anything!

Skylines are great first cars! ....r31 that is :P

to be honest, while they may be pretty old these days.. they are

a) reliable as rocks

B) parts are cheap and plentiful, and VL shared same engine

c) good on fuel economy.. around 10L/100km

d) bit of power, and gives you a taste of true RWD power without being too dangerous

e) Fair bit of room

f) gives you a taste of what owning a skyline is all about, before you get a turbo version.

g) pretty comfortable inside if you get a TI or GXE version

h) insurance is pretty cheap if you just go for 3rd party

i) lots of options for a car that age, power steering, elec mirrors, and elec windows and few extras if you get a TI

I used to own one before stepping up to the R33.. and in fact recently I went and bought another just as a runaround as I know how good they can be.

    • Mixing things up - installed some leather recaros to match the leather seat covered rear seats. Interior looks pretty schmick now except for some slight wear on the steering wheel which I will monitor and address if it becomes worse or actually noticeable!

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
