I'm thinking of putting a surge tank on my 260rs with a single 044, just looking for ideas of surge tanks and where to mount it,

If anyone has pics or other reccommendations please post your ideas,

I looked at fitting a walbro but is way too small for the in tank cradle, have thought about a nismo replacement but they are a lil expensive, the cheapest i have found one is $499 delivered from n power on ebay

Considering the Nismo is good for 450-500kw its worth every cent. If you want a cheaper pump get the deatchworks or aeromotive pumps, they are a highflow pump in a walbro package and can be easily fitted into any tank with a few hoseclamps.

The M35 comes with a built in surge assembly. Surely there is somewhere you can fit one under yours? If you decide to get one made, use the stock pump intank and run 044's off the surge.

My surge tank (3L) is in the car but it is very noisy although I have insulated the cover (was really noisy before). I have a walbro cable tied into the stock cradle and a Bosch 044 out of the surge tank. I would try to put the tank under the rear seat (under the car) if possible.

044 is $200 bucks, Surge tank, 150-200, new braided teflon lines + fittings (so your car doesnt stink like fuel everyday) - $200

(NZ$) my surge tank was $150 Walbro $200 Bosch 044 $300 Cover for surge tank $300 Insulation and carpet $100 there'e a grand without fuel lines and hours of labour. Unless you're into serious track work (don't laugh, I can't afford another track car) a really grunty in-tank pump is the way to go.

044 would fit perfect in the cradle in my tank but i've heard they dont pick up too well on the last 1/4 tank,

I also want to run e85 on occasions so i want a pump thats compatable, is the nismo pump ok with e85?

on what volt rating does the nismo flow that much ???? also with the walbro or deutch you need a direct power feed of around 13volts or more to make them flow there recomended settings . 040 can have picck up probs under 1/4 tank so just dont run that low surge tanks are the way to go if you want to make any sort of decent power its just a good sound investment ! i run a intank walbro wich feeds my surge tank and an 044 pulling from tank all mounted underneath my car near fuel tank and as far as e85 goes looks like a lot of the guys run twin 044 s

bosch 040 235l/hr @ 5 bar 12.5 volts 260rwkw (safe)

bosch 044 330l/h @5bar 12.5 volts 330rwkw (safe)

and from memory walbro on 13.6 volts 270- 280 on normal pump feed volts around 230rwkw

I didn't see the point in changing my set up.

I left the lift pump (in tank) as the stock GTR pump. These can be picked up for cheap to

2 litre custom surge tank that cost me less than $100 to get made

Single 044 that I picked up for 190

Various fittings and lines totaled just over $150.

Basically I never wanted any surge to happen on say a hard launch or on a track etc etc. Its good peace of mind for me as it removes one weak link out of my cars chain. I'd go the external set up any day

I ran the Tomei on ethanol for over year with no problems, same as Nismo apparently. They should be good for over 400wkw with e85 and will work on stock voltages if you want.

Im currently running twin Walbro's and have been guarenteed they will be fine with e85, from the testing various workshops have done.

none at all worked for me for 3 years, I only went ext surge so I could run twin 044 pumps if you only need 1 pump this is the best option. Fittings for 044 cost $25-30 they were on ebay when I did mine.

I think one 044 will be sufficent as i dont want anymore than 330kw at the moment, the 260rs is still a fsmily car & the mrs drives it most of the time,

You need to deside what you want to do 1st because you will need to change a few things and retune to run e85 remember the mods to the fuel pump cradle are ireversible.

Have been prowling the web on different fuel set ups and found a lot of write ups on the honda forums in the usa about guys setting up 044 directly on line without surge tanks.

Standard or walbro in tank to standard fuel lines then 044 in the engine bay between fuel filter and rail,

They all seem to make very decent power and stories of any type of failures or problems due to being set up like that.

Has anyone else got a set up like this or can anyone comment on pro's or con's of doing it like this?

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.  
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.        
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
