Hmm interesting I know the owners of number 16 number 3 and number 12.

Why would Powerplay import a Z-tune with two hand brakes??? have a look at the number 14 that came to Australia plus this car was a private car sent in to become a z-tune. Number from 1-12 are all nismo selected. So this will add value to the car.

Bobby the car that was brought in was one of the original 20. The owner (through some connections he had in the international GT racing world) heard about the car well before it's public/media presentation, flew to Japan and went directly to Nismo to purchase it. In fact, he only spent 3 days in Japan and the whole trip was just to sort out the purchase of the car. This was probably 6 or more years ago so I don't think we are speaking about the same car or owner. I can get the build no. and other details if you would like, just PM me :)

It was a shame they modified the whole car and installed the huge sound system into the car in my opinion that car really wont keep its value.

Laggy????? I don't know any Gtr with twin turbo to come on full boost by 3700 rpm !!!

The car never had any sound system installed - the owner was a pedantic car collector and ex-GT driver. I guess in this light also, this is why he deemed the car to be laggy. He was comparing it to NA cars with 5 times the price tag and double the power output that picked up from 0. Also, to whoever was asking if it had been tracked the answer is yes. It was tracked in NSW before the owner had it transported to Melbourne. The very experienced driver/owner drove it both down the quarter mile and around a circuit (I forget which one) - this is what lead to him to speculate about Nismo's performance claims.

Z-tune is the most epic car built by japan.

All I can say this car does not drive like any gtr out there from factory! The way it handles the torque its amazing

I will not dispute these last 2 points. The z-tune to any real GTR fan was the top of the tree, the cherry on the cake. I guess it just boiled down to him wanting more performance when in reality, there are cars out there (albeit a lot more expensive) that will decimate a z-tune.

May I request that the info be shared on this thread? (Or PM me too. Lol) as I am very much interested in the history of the z tune.

I also read and saw pics of the #014 car that was in Aus. I found a forum/site (I cant remember which) that had the #014 car in for a service at a workshop. Also a quick google search brought this site up with pics of the said car

P.S - moving away from Z-Tune for a while but remaining on the topic of rare GTR's - I just had a read through of Iron Chef's VS2 N1 (issue 162 HPI). So much win in that article!

This thread is pretty old but I still thought I'd input. The first Z-tune to be brought into Australia was brought in about 6ish years ago. The owner went directly to Nismo Japan to purchase it (was imported by Powerplay imports in NSW) and only paid around $275,000 AUD for it brand new at the time (a steal if you ask me). The car was then sold onto a chap in Greece and exported some time later for a mere profit of around 45k. I say 'mere' because the few z-tunes that have popped up recently have had asking prices much higher than this....

On another note, to the person who was asking if there were only 30 z-tunes built, and to answer the rumours that production stopped at no.18, this is in fact incorrect. There were 20 Z-tunes made to commemorate the 20th Anniverasry of Nismo - makes sense if you think about it hey?!!

My interpretation of what you have been saying is that there have been 3 Z-tunes in Aus. Many people are familar with 2 of them, one of which is now in Greece as per MrFijiGold's post, the other owned by the member above. The prior of which you confirm isn't the car you speak of, and obviously, neither is the later.

Furthermore, against the popular notion that there are 19 Z-tunes in existance, you have come out to say that there is actually 20. Now it seems a little suspiscious that a third Z-tune seems to have flown under the radar when imported into Aus by this ex GT racer you speak of, and that suddenly there is an now an extra Z-tune that was produced by Nismo over its production. This mystery Z-tune wouldn't happen to be #20 would it?

Steven, IIRC there were some budget cuts made by publishers of the mag (please correct me here if I am mistaken) and they had to lose the columns at the back of the mag.

Agree! The articles were a big selling point for me as well.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a great magazine but yes I do miss those!

The thing i hate about express is their article sharing. When I got HPI, Zoom and Fast 4s I would sometimes get the same one 3 times. Not acceptable.

Im down to HPI and Fast 4s, I'll wait till Fast 4s runs out then just keep HPI. Got a lot of time for Jason the editor.

It was no.14 that came here first, correctly identified as 'John's' - The sound system you speak of was installed then removed. There was no modification required to do this as the standard GTR console already had everything in place for the sound system. I guess this information can now be shared publicly as it's in those photos!

Well it sounds like you've done a complete backflip on your statement, as per post number #65 where you say it is not the one from MrFijiGold's post, and now conceed that it is infact #14. What you have said up until the above post gives the impression that there was actually another (3rd) that was in Aus, so pardon me for trying to connect the ill fitting dots.

Whilst I conceed that you are correct with 20 builds of the Z-tune, your statement has appeared to catch many off guard, even instigating Bobby to inquire about the number manufactured;

I will have to email Nismo and ask them the facts about building "20".

Yet, I will reiterated that I was wrong, and that 20 appear to be in existence (confirmed by BMI - which I believe is a credible source).

Anyway, I hope that we can move on from this and let bygons be bygons.

I once heard someone else make the same comment about 'only 19 z-tunes'. I take it they were not of the GTR-fan era that knew of the z-tune before its relesase (pre-2006) and therefore missed all the pre-release hype and publicity where Nismo regularly stated that 20 z-tunes were being produced for their 20th anniversary. I guess it's all one giant conspiracy theory and Nismo only turned 19!! :laugh: Among other things I have even heard some people claim that 30 z-tunes were made and in different colours. My favourite rumour has to be held by these same people who believe that the midnight purple 'z-tune' that's floating around on the internet is a genuine z-tune from Nismo :no: .....HAHAHA clearly they have no idea what they're talking about

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.   
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
