Oh well if it's not needed it's one less thing for people to do for their first track day.

this is it.

Less crap to get out to start with is good.

I should have gone pins by now but just been too lazy

basically once you get serious things like this are needed, but if you want to just try out, good on CAMS for making it easier.

So if I was to rock down with a 500hp car rolling on linglongs and stock brakes with tired pads for DT...she'll be right yeah...??

I can always turn the boost down a little, maybe even splurge on some front pads , or is that not funny

Actually - PI is the easiest track in Vic on brakes so it's less of a concern there.

Engine condition (sufficient cooling etc) and front right tyres is what you need to worry about at this place.

lol ARTZ you will be fine. Just make sure the old isn't 50000000000000tly years old and you have plenty of it in the sump.

fyi I have pins, but only recently since things have got a little more serious.

I'm kinda new to track days (only done 2 Winton days and a handful of Deca's) but I'm itching to get on the track to test the cars new power.. Are beginners welcome or is it mostly going to be more experienced people on the track?

Mind you I will probably just be opting for the driver training on the day..

I dont have any tyres so if someone is doing DT and wants an Instructor I would be stoked to get out on the track and try not to confuse you :)

ARTZ, I will check my box of tricks I may have some spare Endless CCX pads for std brakes

Roy your a legend bud..I would take you up on both offers :)

however may have missed the boat...silly me didnt realize cams license was needed for this events..can apply tomorrow but may be too late hey...

Either way I will be there though ..

No worries, thanks for clearing that up mate.

I also don't have a cams license, I printed off the L2S application form & plan on faxing it off tomorrow but I can't see myself receiving my card in the mail in time for the event. I noticed on the last page it has a small cut out at the bottom that says "30-day level 2 license" "This is a 30-day license only, valid from the time your car club rep signs it. CAMS Corporate services will forward your official 12-month level 2 license directly to you."

Am I right in assuming if I bring that small cut out (whilst I wait for my proper CAMs license to arrive) along with a current SAU membership card, a SAU rep can fill that out for me on the day to approve me to go on the track?

yes thats what Ive been told to do too....

now all I need to find is my damn membership number ...why people insist on stealing my wallet when I never have any money in it is beyond me :domokun:

you will need your membership card as well.

number is not enough

so when you turn up at the track they will ask for membership card and cams license.

I renewed mine this week when I got the reminder letter, does the membership card have to be current? I only have last year's card...

yes it does.

you should have been sent a letter after you paid your renewal with a new date stamp for it.

Yeah I messaged Dan about a new card 4 months ago, was meant to pick it up at dyno day but couldn't make it..was hoping it would come with my renewal but alas..Have pmd Dan again..Hurry up Dan..I will come pick it up If I have too. ;)

Is that you that made the $5 deposit last week on 5th July?

yes it does.

Hopefully it turns up before next weekend then. Thanks.

    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. You need one of these, can't do the job without it: https://navarapart.com.au/product/genuine-nissan-patrol-y62-d23-np300-navara-re7-dipstick-fill-connector1 You need a heap of compatible transmission oil. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush... Also, you need some biiig oil catch trays, at least one of these, or bigger if possible (volume was fine, size was very marginal): https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Tools-%26-Garage/Specialty-Tools/Oil-Service/Garage-Tough-Oil-Drain-Pan-Black-16L---GT1068/p/TO03191 Finally, a measuring jug is very useful if your pump does not have volumes marked on it, I got a 6l one: https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/fluid-accessories/measuring-jugs/penrite-measuring-jug-6l-pmj006/p/A5322648 Oh, and gloves.....this stuff is horrible (not as bad as diff oil, but getting there) ....First, jack up your car.....
    • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.
    • our good friends at nismo make a diff for it, I have one (and a spare housing to put the centre in) on the way. https://www.nismo.co.jp/products/web_catalogue/lsd/mechanical_lsd_v37.html AMS also make a helical one, but I prefer mechanical for track use in 2wd (I do run a quaife in the front, but not rear of the R32)
