It's that time of year for me to renew my insurance and to my surprise, a $1000 increase for the same cover, insured amount and no claims (1994 BNR32 GTR, Male, 27 Years Old - $1600 Full Comp last year to $2600 this year).

This seemed very odd to me so I called them to ask if it is correct.. Spoke to a representative and was told that this new increase in Victoria was due to the cost of running a business has gone up because of Hail Damage claims...

I am dumbfounded that a single individual would be slung an extra $1000 per year (62.5% Increase)....

Have other Victorias experienced the same sorta increase?

lol increase because of hail damage?

That's what insurance is FOR in the first place. You don't just then go and up costs because of it, that's a joke.

Insurance companies using that as justification for a rise just means call another company... I've had no such increase with Shannons.

That premium seems excessively high for your age.

Last year, I was on $1208 with a high agreed value.

Then this year, it went up $200+ and the agreed value dropped drastically.

Now I switched to Shannons, cheaper premium with a high agreed value.

Hi,

Can I recommend you get a quote from LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles) ? (Underwritten by Wesfarmers)

They've done mine & it was 1300 less than Suncorp (They wanted $2300!!), Justcars (1800) & Shannons.

Beat them all. Paying about $900 now for 12 months , Got Agreed value with all the extras (hire car, windscreen free excess & no claims bonus protect)

Standard 500 excess. No hidden fee's or exclusions.

(My background is Insurance myself)

Check out :

Cheers

Just cars tried putting mine up $250, said they re-evaluate the post code annually and it was high risk therefore the increase. (westside seems legit) politely suggested they get fkd or I'm switching company they did same rate as last year.. Stil to much IMO but nobody else is cheaper >.<

LSV stopped doing Imports for a while, but then started again recently.

However their premium for me, was well over $300 higher than Shannons and their agreed value was a problem - which for me was the mitigating factor as it was significantly lower.

Also one thing to consider, which isn't always a factor for some... Choice of repairer. This for me is the deal breaker in almost every instance.

Having recently made a claim through Shannons, I was shocked at how straight forward the process was vs other companies who require multi-quotes, using their "preferred" workshops and so on.

End of the day it pays to shop around. Get a quote from one place, then call back the other - good old price war will eventually see you with a better deal

Shannons reduced my agreed value by around $8K and increased my premium by $100 on renewal. Best thing to do is get a new quote with the same company (or other companies) and check price difference. Insurance companies use something called Capping, which is a % each year that your premium will increase to align with the going Book Rate. New policies tend to be lower/discounted to lure the customer in and then each year capping is applied to decrease the amount of discount originally applied.

Weird, Shannons quotd me around $1800, LSV around ~650 ($1500 excess) and Enthusiast special vehicle a little lower than LSV with a $750 excess.

Justcars quoted $1500 and RACV $1000.

LSV, Enthusiast & Shannons are limited or very limited use policies :)

mine is not limited use policy that im aware of, that said i never drove it daily anyway.

I was paying $1,700, agreed value of $40,000 and ALL my mods listed. I had to send through a word doco... lol.

LSV couldn't come close with all my mods listed... Which does make quite a difference.

Agreed!!!

I'm on Full comp @ $70 a month with Shannons with a JDM modded EVO 7.... but yeah i'm rating 1 and 40yr :whistling:

Age would help *budum tish* My Cube works out about $65 per month daily use cover for $20,000.

They have quoted me a ridiculous premium for the 86/BRZ I want to insure next year. Currently quoting $1500 insured for $43,000. Really it should be around $1000 at my age with a rating one and other policies with them I would think. By the time I want to insure it I'll be 28/29. I want to stay with them if I can as they're good to deal with. I should be able to haggle them down, having friends who work for them is a bonus.

  • 3 weeks later...

age: 22

car: 34 vspec

rating: 1

i pay monthly and they increased it by 120 a month and decreased the valvue by 6g

absolute peasants i called up and they decreased it because im a loyal customer but still getting shafted

I'm with LSV too and they jacked it about $300 to $1850 full comp, performance modified 1994 BNR32 VSpecII

Dropped it to non performance modified as they don't class coilovers, filters, exhaust or a NISTune as performance modifications. this dropped it to $1200. Switched to limited use (3 days per week no limit on KMs) and it's now $960 with $500 premium, no claim Glass cover and rating protection.

When I first took it out 4 years ago with them they even gave me salvage rights which meant if it got written off, they gave me the wreck.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
