just organising some AFM delete pipes for my R, but was wondering if there is a less restrictive way of planning the intake from the pods now that i don't have to run the AFM's? ie, do you have more flexibility to do something 'better' with the intake piping? or is there no real gains there? (i'm thinking there isn't really anything there worth the hassle, but thought i'd ask anyway)

No real gains :)

yeah, that's what i was thinking. Means less money i might potentially spend!

Be epic and run no pod?

hahaha, you first :D

I can finally say this :D back to stock and gut afm's

yeah, now that i think about it, that's probably the best option isn't it. Buy dead afm's or cheap stockies, and gut them... what would stock GTR AFM's cost? $50? oh well.

^ well yeah there is that minor issue.

You can get stuffed stock ones for less than $50 surely Dan :)

I think I might even have one lying around in my apartment... Infact i might have two, i'll have a look.

There's not a lot of point in having non-functional AFMs installed. The cops know how to unplug them and see what it does to the way the car runs.

not really thinking about it from that point of view, was purely thinking about it from a $$ pov, delete pipes made vs gutted standard AFM's - i think AFM's would be the last of the problems with the boys in blue. You'd be unlucky to have a cop know about unplugging and running the car from what i've heard *touch wood*, but then again, it is Victoria

dude, if you have them lying around and don't want them, i'd be happy to take them off your hands. Never hurts to have a collection of stock parts :)

Here is a little intake mod you can do Dan. It's a little bit more dicking around though.

Rear turbo intake pipe

Here you can see the inside of a standard one. Note the "Hump"

Modified one. Doesnt look pretty but thats just the flash doing it's thing.

Front standard pipe with the modified one from the outside.

Standard vs modified internally. Note the lack of "Hump"

It definately can't hurt. The rear one comes in a fair way, reducing from the 2 inch pipe to a '1.7ish' at its smallest point.

Don't have back to back's as the modified set is going on my engine..... when it comes :D

That hump is not there by accident. Would definitely be to condition the flow in some desirable way.

Cops playing with your afms ? well the issue there is they arnt suppoed to touch the car let alone unpluging parts off it !!!

In Victoria, state in discussion, you get pulled up at a random station (Pol/EPA) - they most certainly they can.

Would be the same in NSW as the EPA are now taking quite a foot hold the same as Vic from what friends of mine have been saying of late.

Lube up Canadians ;)

Just don't be a 'brother' and hangout/do skidzzzzz/be a tool/eat kababs in the 'known' hotspots and you should be ok.

Something constructive; Dan have a look at how big the turbo inlet is vs the width of the AFM :)

I've had mine in there since buying the car in 2005 and they've been cosmetic since about a fortnight after purchasing it. Those AFM delete pipes from HKS are a rip but what's worse is they really don't look stock IMO which defeats the purpose. If you put the stock air box back with a good filter and intake you'd be looking more stock again and that won't be a restriction either

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
