I wouldn't buy a Gtr, especially with a loan. I've been there with 20k plus loans and its just a pain in the ass as you dont actually own the car.

32's are getting very very hard to find without rust and without issues, just about every 32 GTR ive seen that hasnt been reprayed/restored has rust somewhere on it, whether its the front floor pan, rear quarters or jacking points. Even my gtst had rust holes from the squashed sills, was pretty surprised to find it.

You'd be much better of getting a 33/34 s14/s15 thats in good nick, GTR's are for people with plenty of cash to maintain them, yes you might have no problems with one but when you do it will cost you a f**k load more compared to fixing a GTST.

Each to there own but I think you would be making a very bad financial decision buying a 32 GTR.

I completely agree with eightsixboy. I would not recommend an R32 GTR in your situation.

My 32 GTR is a shinning example of what can go wrong. I imported the car at 27 yrs old. It was a high quality example with no problems when I imported it. However being a modified car and an RB26, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Starting with a blown turbo, engine rebuild, leaking shocks, brakes, steering system, the list goes on....

The plan was to keep the car stock as it was my daily driver. I've since modified it more for track work and it has become uncomfortable so I had to buy a commo as daily.

If I were you, I would stick with the latest model car you can afford and keep it completely stock until you pay off the loan. That would be the smart thing to do. Wish someone warned me!

Nobody is a bigger fan of these cars than I am but I have to agree........ Weekend fun car absolutely! Daily.... no chance.

I own 2 of these cars, an ADM and a JDM, both stock both well sorted but even then I couldn't imagine them as a daily.

My daughter bought a 2003 WRX with a full STI body kit and it's a great car. A fantastic daily. Buy one of those, send it to a reputable tuner if you must and you will enjoy a reliable, comfortable daily with more than adequate gusto.

Good luck.

Bob.

Right, lets get a few things straight.... Firstly, I don't think anyone actually buys a 32 GTR thinking it makes financial sense. Secondly, yes there are so many cars out there that make far more sense.... in fact there are few that would make less sense!

However I too own an R32 GTR and I love it. It is without doubt the best thing I have ever bought. I knew it was not cheap and that maintaining them can be costly but that is the price you pay for a car that is iconic, fast and incredible to drive.

I have driven a LOT of different cars and none have given me the same joy as my GTR does. When I was buying it I knew that you only have one chance at life and sometimes you buy things that aren't sensible so that you can enjoy the time you have. I do not regret it for a second and when people start asking me "Why would you own a car like that?" and "Must cost a lot to fill?" and "Bet thats not cheap to run?" I try to explain it to them but most don't get it. For those people I feel sad because they can't appreciate the joy I get from driving such a fantastic car.

Very well said!

I've owned and currently do own some exotic cars but let me say the R32 GT-R is a fabulous bit of work and is probably the best all round car I've every owned and I'm 50!

My ADM is a collectible and it will be lucky to see 500 kms per year but the JDM is the one I look forward to driving on weekends. Its comfortable, smooth, fast, affordable, good looking, reliable...... need I continue?

The problem is there are so many $hitboxes out there they contaminate the marque and in particular this model.

If you can find one that is in good original condition then you are halfway there. In stock form with general road use they will last forever.

Check this out.............This one has been for sale for quite a while yet on paper it appears great value - http://www.carpoint....id=1391C0E143CC

As I said in a previous post, I have a buyer for my JDM in February for a lot more money than the asking price here.

If I hadn't of bought another car 7 weeks ago I would have been tempted to have bought this one and just parked it.

There are nice R32 GT-R's out there, you just need to know what to look for.

A $12,000 clunker is going to cost you an absolute fortune though. That would be a recipe for disaster and it will end it tears.

Cheers,

Bob.

More than likely me having a small sook about letting my favourite car ever, go for a song. Final price was $17k so if you look you can find great cars (yeah the colour isn't the best but the car.....). I daily drove this for about 18 months but gave up after that as it just got too hard. Mostly driving to and from work. No milk bar runs etc. You'd have to be pretty hardy driving one daily with no more comfy alternatives. As for loans on cars, they are appropriate depending on circumstances. You got assets, then you can spend on some toys. You buy toys before assets you'll more than likely be behind the 8 ball all your life. Instant gratification is the curse of the younger generation.

I have owned 3 r32 gtr's. one of the truest things I ever read before buying my first one was ' Just because you can afford to buy a GTR, does not mean you can afford to own one!'. The next best piece of advice, 'get the cleanest, best condition possible'. Every cent you save on the purchase price, will likely cost three times as much in repairs and getting it to a good condition. DON'T buy the first cheap one that comes along. Wait and shop smart. I searched for two years to get my first. The more modified it is, the more likely you will have issues.

An r32 GTR is not a practical daily. It is possible, but you need to have a fairly healthy desposible income to be able to maintain it as such.

My two cents

I only wish I knew that before I bought my GTR when I was 19. I would probably have a second house by now haha.

Uses around 13-14L/100km

Which is why I'm so poor now lol one year of daily duties in the GT-R destroyed my bank account.

Thought i would find this one year later! I ended up find a clean ADM S15 with 100,000Kms and full service history. all it had was an exhaust. One year later and shes going very good, no issues or anything!

Good to hear. The S15 is pretty much bullet proof, especially being a ADM (and avoiding Japanese roads in winter). A decent compromise. If I had to drive my R32 daily, it'd send me nuts... and probably broke.

Damn that car is clean Bob. Great buy for who ever gets it.

Still for sale 10 months on which is a bit of a worry.

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
