Urgent Borrow: Trolley Jack + Jack Stands

Recommended Posts

Need to swap my exhaust for a stock zorst and I have already got an extension on my EPA notice. I have basically Sunday, Monday, Tuesday to get it swapped out and tested. I am free all those days.

Trouble is I don't yet have jack and stands. Have only come across dodgy looking ones and will keep looking for something suitable for purchasing. On that note I have been thinking of ratchet Kincrome stands if anyone has any comments on that and somewhere they sell the damn things! also looking for a decent trolley jack (low profile) possibly light as well.

Please reach out a bit for me and help me get this done :D

If you know someone with a Costco membership, get their low profile jack.

Grab some stands from Supercheap Auto. A Skyline isn't super heavy so pretty much any of them will do.

Yeah I wish I knew someone with COSTCO Membership I want that Arcan jack. I was going to buy it off Ebay for ~$200 but if I can't borrow a jack off someone i'll need to buy something before and Ebay jack will arrive.

Got it sorted, thanks guys. For anyone who reads this far. Still looking for Arcan Jack and kincrome ratchet stands strong enough to lift skyline if anyone comes across either in a shop or goes to Costco let me know!

Using the arcan jack today it was great in terms of lifting the car easily even with only half the handle on BUT We couldn't jack it very high. I think it's max height is too low. Anyone else find this? After jacking it up to full height we could only get one 'click' up the ratchet stands.

Car sounds weird now. So quiet to me but i'm not sure it's quiet enough for EPA test. It's a stock catback. Is that all I need to do to pass?

At first in the garage it seemed loud and so I took it for a drive and I was like :woot: is my engine even on?

It even felt more responsive... I was like is a smaller exhaust... better???!?! but then I gave it a bit of stick and no pull :verymad:

Naughty stock exhaust :domokun:

Has anyone noticed this sense of responsiveness with a smaller exhaust? I'm not sure if it's placebo but changing between gears seems quicker and smoother kinda.

I'd say it's loud cause it's in the garage man.

Bigger exhaust is only a benifit when you are running under boost. Just tootling round off boost a big exhaust actually robs some power but who cares about that ;)

Your rear wheels are like 10cm off the ground in one of those pics, is that the max height of the jack?

With my jack (full sized, not a little aluminium low profile) I have to remember to close my boot before I jack it up off the diff, so that my boot doesn't hit the roof of the garage :P

Edit: Mods, I'd also be removing your address out of the first post of this thread.

Yeah the wheels are a few cm off the ground in that picture. Clearance was good from the rear but I think the front was more difficult because of how far back you have to put the jack stands could only get one click on the ratchet stands and it was a little low. That being said you could just jack it up full height, stand it. Then roll the jack onto some sort of solid platform that it wont roll off and jack it up a bit more as someone said. That's something I could live with.

Don't worry about the address i'm in the process of moving out or I wouldn't have been so liberal about it :P

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
