removed when i was 8...so never since then

but it is recurring usually and after 8 times or something you can opt to take them out....get it done...my missus spent all last year fighting tonsilitis and its a motherf**ker (she was also fighting pneumonia at the same time to make life hard ) every month or so it would come back .. anyway she finally got them out and has been great ever since... ;)

used to get it quite often, really really bad only a couple of times. Haven't had them removed as i haven't had a drama for the last 4 or so years.

Might have to put it on the to do list if they ever flare up again

They are usually a problem when you can feel them like massive lumps on the side of your upper neck almost resembling a goitre. Unfortunately our tonsils are lymph tissue which connect to the rest of the lymphatic system for rapid transport of our anti-pathogenic cells and so are like the first line of defence for our immune system

I usually get tonsillitus once a year but treat it with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories

Surgeons are adverse to remove unless you have a real issue with them.

Look at things like:

Rest/Workload

Diet

Stress etc etc.

I had it a good 6-7 times over 12 months about 4-5 years ago, each time would stick around for 4-8 days pretty heavily, Doc was ready to take them out as it was virtually back to back at times which is a PIA.

BUT I was having pretty epic weekends of 2-3 days of partying/boozing with maybe 4-5hrs sleep. So stopped staying out till all hours and now I drive a bit, or just have a few drinks rather than go totally wild.

Never had it since and overall health has improved greatly, rarely get sick at all these days.

I'm going to take a guess at somewhere around 20 times. Back in primary school (90s for me) I would have it every other month consistently. The last time I recall having it "back then", it put me in hospital for a few days as a result being unable to swallow ANYTHING (even my own saliva) for about 4 days, leaving me disturbingly dehydrated and malnourished....they said the next time it happens, THEY'RE COMING OUT....

Fast forward to March last year, which is the next time I got it lol. I think the doc scared them a little. They don't take them out these days unless it's SERIOUS and you demand it. Meh, I was fine in a few days with antibiotics and some rest.

Copped it again end of October last year during the last few days of an 11 night cruise, and right before I started my current job lol...did NOT want to call in sick for my first week, so I gargled the f**k out of salt water, smashed the erythromycin hard, and rested well. Also forced food down my throat, ignoring the pain (which wasn't that bad anyway).

f**king hope I don't get it again. Hate that shit.

Had my tonsils removed when I was 4.

In 1953, some surgeon had a brainstorm that maybe, my asthma would improve if they were removed.

He was wrong - the clown.

Oh yes, one more thing...

If you have lots of repeats for penicillin, beware of getting Candidiasis - prevented by taking probiotics after each antibiotic course ok?

Used to get tonsillitis bad when I was very young, I think dairy used to contribute a lot to it, anyway had them removed, glad I did but that operation is not a nice experience. I remember after the op waking up from the aesthetic and then shortly after vomiting up so much blood that went into my stomach during the surgery. Then a few days after I went home the stiches broke and it started to haemorrhage so back to the hospital. Glad all that's behind me, would hate to get them out as an adult but the surgery techniques have probably improved heaps in the last 20 years.

At least 9 times from year 8-12 the final being 'acute-severe' appearing on the day of two year 12 exams needing injections to the buttocks. Never got them removed. In one of them it was glandular which went unnoticed.

I believe tonsillitis is what caused me to develop an allergy to penicillin....last time I had penicillin I broke out in a horrific looking yet not at all itchy rash. Red lumpy swollen shit EVERYWHERE, particularly on my back. Was actually pretty funny.

YESSSS!!! This happens to me anytime I have antibiotics that are penicillin based. So I always ask for a different antibiotic which most doctors are happy to go along with.

I used to get them all the time when I was younger. Hurt like hell. The last time was over 10yrs ago now even though they haven't been removed.

The last time, I went to hospital and the Dr said I had the biggest quincy she had ever seen (ball of pus on my throat). The pain was terrible. To get rid of it they sprayed something to make it numb, then they jabbed it with a needle in it, then they got a scalpel and cut it (shit myself when they put in my mouth!!!) - the amount of pus and blood that came out was incredible (yes disgusting!). Gave me some steroids and antibiotics etc and never had bad tonsilitis ever again.

Betadine Throat gargle also works quite well for a lot of throat infections.

If you feel the on-set of something (even a tingle), start using it and a lot of the time you can stop it from taking hold :)

    • And if you want more power, more reliably, and cheaper, go get the Aussie RB... The 4L Barra and put that in instead.
    • No cats will keep discolouring the rear bar. Sends white paint a weird yellow stain. Cut and polish normally gets it out, but you'll be doing that every fortnight I found.
    • Both heads will be equally reliable or unreliable depending on what you do to them.  Stock the RB26 head will flow more. You have access to the stock intake ITB manifold on the RB26 cheaply which flows really well(1000hp+).   Arguably more aftermarket support for RB26, though in Aus we love our RB30 SOHC heads too.    The only downsides to the RB26 head is if you have a VL commodore and want to keep the SOHC look.  Where you may have an issue is drilling out the rb30 block for the bigger head studs but if you are building a big power motor you'd probably put bigger studs on the SOHC head too.  This is just about finding a good machine shop, sometimes easier said than done.  RB30 head worked can make big power just like a Rb26 head, so really it actually more comes down to what your preference is for your car.  People now even making billet versions of both.
    • 2630s work perfectly well. There is something to be said for just using the 30 head, as it saves all the pain of the conversion, still makes tons of power, still sounds cool, etc etc. 2630 will obviously make more power again, but the differences are not stupidly big. It really depends on whether you're racing for sheep stations or not. If it's dead serious, then it's a 26 head. If it's just for fun, it could go either way. But the 26 head and the effort to get it set up, etc etc, is part of the fun.
    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.
