Which fuel do you use??

Recommended Posts

Shell Optimax...

Regular unleaded = 390kms

Optimax = 460kms + 8c/litre more

$44 - to fill with reg

$49 - to fill with opti

obviously depending on when i fill up as to what the price is.

so does anybody really know what is the best to use....?

i've been hearing horror stories of late regarding optimax fouling plugs with the "cleaning" additives in bikes...someone was trying to tell me the same thing was happening in wrxs

i've switched across from optimax to synergy..given that work will only give me a fuel card for mobil and/or shell the choice is kinda limited...?

is bp any good...i thought they were like light years behind the other guys...?

hmmmm... if there was a mobil near me id probably use it after hearing about the probs opti causes... but then again ive used it for years without a problem on my old crap box.

regular unleaded (go the fuel requirements of a GTS!!!) but only from BP, Mobil, Caltex or Shell (the last 2 get their fuel from the same refineries anyway) gets me ~450km on a full tank.

Hate wooly's/safeway (bloody vic names) fuel with a passion coz its always watered down. Same with some independants, I'll only ever use em if I'm either short on change or they have a really mad price on fuel (like 10c lower)

When I used to have the 180sx I was partial to Synergy, and I got really good results using it with mobil's synthetic oils n additives. I think its better that way, coz its all from the same company, and from experience as long as you keep things uniform there's no problems, there's only trouble when you start mix n matching (yes I'm a techsupport person who hates ppl who buy hardware that's obviously incompatible with their PC's)

I have fuel cards for mobil and bp, which is good because i've heard optimax is rated between 95-98, where as synergy 8000 and bp ultimate are actually 98ron?

I will use either bp ult or syn8000, mainly mobil around where i live so thats what gets used mainly.

i have a bp with ultimate right down the road... so i go there.

i used to used optimax, but last service they asked me what fuel i was using because my fuel filter was reasonably dirty. I thought nothing of it.

But hey, BP is right down the road now, and im lazy.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
