Im really not 100% on what car to buy out of an r32 gts-t or a 1999 wrx.

im looking at an r32 wich has alot of work done to it or a wrx with an exhaust and im looking at spending the same amount of money on bothe ($20,000).

the only thing im thinking about is price drop , and value for money.

what do you guys reckon is the better buy out of the 2

If it was me I'd buy the rex. 10 years younger and still (IMO) a great car.

agreed... but if you are going to do more work to it, it may be more likely go bang (particularly the gearbox...) but that said I don't know how strong R32 GTst driveline is...

I would go Skyline because it would be easier to modify and more bang for buck and IMO looks better... only one rex i like and thats the old shape 00 before they went bug eye....

WRX driveline is pretty pox and even with my low mods i was able to beat most WRX drivers with exhausts.

As for hold its value more... not really... 00s are now 24k some less for std average condition and as they are all australian imported alot of them have done well over 100k.

My cousin has a 99 WRX limited with full leather and suade interior... to be honest... my old R32 had way more punch and was a hell of a lot more fun to drive....

BUT it is newer... how that makes a difference to its performance i have no idea... technology hasnt changed that much in 6years (93 R32 to 99 wrx)

Was this everytime or just at a set of lights? How about in a run through the black spur or up the Great Alpine Rd. What about at Rob Roy? Even around Winton?

Horses for coarses. The rex would kick an R32 GTS-T's ass in certain circumstance but not at a set of traffic lights. So what. Performance isnt all about who wins when the lights change. And considering Ni you were considering a mini for these reasons Im suprised you said that.

Both totally different cars to drive and different advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, not a fan and drove a modded rex for a little bit and been in a couple of heavy modded ones - but this is a skyline forum after all.

I'd argue a RWD still is awesome fun in the twisties, just requires a bit more thought and knowing of how your car handles.

snowman: inark was getting a WRX, mini, GTR, and ended up with a RB26 Cefiro .. go figure :)

I'd go the 32 they are agressive with a sharper shape and replacement parts such as gear box and engine are quite cheap.

On the other hand the wrx will launch better initially but once the skyline gains traction its quicker. The older shape wrx has a weak gearbox too. The 32 gearbox will handle 220ish kw's although you can upgrade to a 33gts-t which is heaps stonger.

What ever decision you make they are nice looking cars that perform well to what they are made for. They will also piss alot of one-eyed v8 drivers off :)

take care

Mark

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
    • @GTSBoy yeah sorry i know thery are known for colors bud those DBA are too in colors 🙂 Green will be good enough for me
