(mods if this is in the wrong section please move)

Hi guys, in a bit of a dilemma. The only tuner up here in Darwin is retiring at the end of this month and my car won't be finished until December.

How do you guys recommend getting a tune done?

There is other workshops up here with Dynos but they do not do tunes.

And sorry for posting a random question such as this haha.

Cheers

Sorry for the obvious question but do you have a tunable ecu if so what kind?

Being in a remote location must be a pain in the ass lol... Either someone needs to come to you or you need to get the car to someone... I guess that is the obvious answer though :P

how modified is the car? if it's just running all stock gear, i.e. injectors, afm, turbo why not give Toshi (forum biz trader) a call?

Just get an off the shelf reprogrammed ECU (he installs his own EPROM on the board).

Car will be running a hypergear turbo and apexi powerfc. All other mods such as injectors and afm will be done.

I haven't purchased the ecu yet so that can be changed depending on what would be of benefit.

Kinda crappy situation and there is nothing I can do about living in Darwin. Army sorta posted me here indefinitely haha

Get an adaptronic via hypergear, he can sell you a turbo and ecu combo for close to 2k depending on what sort of turbo you are getting... It also means no AFM which is win win.

As noted by other guys, best bet is to book a good tuner to come for a holiday with his wideband and do some road tuning along some of your no speed limit highways. It will probably be a days work but some tuners might be keen just for the experience. Surely it would be fun...

PM DVS JEZ, he is the nicest tuner I have ever met and he puts a lot of care into his work. Hopefully he can sort you out.

Have you not heard the term AWOL? Its there for a reason :P

Yea adaptronic would be my preference but I just assumed seeing as no tuner up here now that the easiest ecu to get tuned would be powerfc.

I have a bit of time before I need it tuned so can probably look into it.

And I bet if I could find someone to come up here there would be a lot of interest from the other guys here as well who are in the same situation

IF this was the case get a list of the cars and the mods each one has and you will probably find a tuner will come to you and do a heap at once! Well i am sure there are some that are willing as long as there are multiple cars and there is money to be made!

The other aspect to the "be prepared" thing is to actually be prepared. By this I mean, make damn sure that your fuel pump is up to scratch, your injectors are clean and functional, that every other thing that generally goes wrong with cars on the dyno during tuning has been thought of and some action taken to check or fix anything that could be wrong. That way you won't have your tuner come up for no result, or sitting twiddling his thumbs while a collapsed cat converter is swapped out, etc etc.

If you can follow my thread and buy exact branded injectors and fuel pump I can give you a tune file for the adaptronic ecu, which should run pretty close.

    • Budget for sensors and wiring as well. Depending on how safe you want to be with the engine, you could be flirting with $2K AUD in sensors and wiring.

    • I mean, the 240i is not a Supra... make it drop a few hundred kg, have a sportscar chassis, clearance for wheels etc... Maybe I want a hardtop Z40i XDrive or something :p I do agree with you though and have long said the B58 Supra/240i/340i/440i is the new R Chassis/JDM90's turbo rocket for mod lovers to ... not always appreciative response lol. Doesn't make it not true though.
