Death of a rb30. Still trying to figure out what happened. Just cruising down the interstate and started hearing it. No loss of oil pressure, i always look at that and have audible warnings and visual warnings on it.

Sorry to hear it....

Argo rods too, bummer. I'm running Argo's in mine so hopefully I don't meet the same fate!

I've seen crank oil galleries blocked from a ball of sealant that has fallen off the sump to block join over time. It's very easy to overdo it went applying it.

Other than that the fact that it happened on cruise is a worry. Hopefully there is a clear cut reason as it sucks arse when a motor dies and you don't know why!

Im going to pull the oil pump apart today, but i was still getting normal pressures, so I doubt its the pump. Only about 2,000 miles on her since the rebuild. Havent even turned up the boost :( I was fun as hell at 12psi though.

I wouldnt think it would get any better the a R.I.P.S. build. Everything is out now, so its no longer a rips :( Anyone can assemble them, but not to his specs and attention to detail, Although I think i will debur the inside of this block, its ugly and quiet scary looking.

The number one piston is out of round by 8 thousandths. and the crank is egged. So for sure needs a new crank and rod.

Anyway, more disassembly pics.

Those rod bearings are ugly for such low kms.

The big ends cop a lot more abuse than mains but they look a lot worse for wear than what you would expect after 2000 miles...

IMO the mains dont look great, but its hard to tell from pics, the fact all the big ends are trashed points to oil issues, could there be contaminants in the cooler etc? have you asked rips? Theres not somthing funny like oil thermostat or oil filter block incorrectly plumbed? how do the cams look?

Looks like someone poured sand in the motor, no way should a 2000mile engine look that bad.

Something has been floating around in there by the looks of it
