Hi ladies and Gents,

I am looking for a keen fabricator that wants to showcase his skills in a pretty rare opurtunity to make a 350GT / 350Z turbo kit, there is not much involved and there is none in Austrlaia,

I am familiar with mechanical engineering and have a few options in mind (i have done my homework)

I own the car so thats not an issue

I just need someone with nice welding skills that is willing to showcase some of his work in a first australian kit,

I already have a kit, currently on my Stagea, but I am willing to sell it as the auto can't handle what I would like to throw at it. 400kw capable GTX3076, 1.06 Tial rear, 45mm external gate.

What are your power requirements and where are you located? I can custom make kits (if the car is here) I can also supply turbo manifolds separately if you require them...

There is more involved in a turbo kit than you think, as there is bugger all space to work with.

I don't work well with mechanical engineering types for some reason, they usually have no idea how to make things in the real world and underestimate costs, fabrication time and demand for the product, which might be the case here. There is absolutely no point fabricating manifolds when Nissan already made some, as HKS found.

I suggest you stick the turbo in the boot ff_Driftz, much more room there... :P

I'd like to know more about this mythical land named "Austrlaia" where the inhabitants have no access to 350GT/350Z turbo kits, it sounds like a terrible place.

But that's just me.

they even cater for RHS drive vehicles, cast manifolds too.. no cracking!

Cheaper? No way, I could fabricate a kit for less using factory VQ25det manifolds. I did notice there was 1 HKS kit in stock though...

Easier? I doubt it, most twin setups or kits that put the turbo in the stock airbox position will just get you defected. There is no point doing any of the above until the engine is built anyway.

I am not asking anyone to work for free,

it always suprises me that there is negative people out there who should welcome new ideas for everyones benefit including their own,

if i wanted just a turbo kit i could fabricate one myself in one day without a problem, I want to put together something new with VGT turbos etc etc

that a person with very limited hands on skills can fit, I can design, I can weld, I can machine etc but in saying that - am i an expert welder/tuner etc?

the answer is no there is individuals on here that are and i invite those individuals to come forward and showcase their skills with a turbo kit that i will help design (that is my Job and i am an expert in mechanical design that is what i do every day, 3D modeling, FEA and so on)

PS: when i say there is none in Australia, I have done my home work, and if any of you think there is - i chalange you to find me a kit that uses VGT turbos in an efective manner with little mods on a 350/V35.

So you want a variable geometry turbo on 3500cc car? Is this a purely design project?

Point is, you want to turbo a v35 there are good kits out there that will do the job and no be laggy.

If you want to make a design project, then choose a car with better packaging options like an inline motor that can take more than 10psi of boost.

In my opinion a variable geometry turbo kit is unnecessary due to the large displacement of your engine, the VQ35 will spin up a massive turbo very early in the rev range and allow more flow than the stock motor could ever ingest.

Check out the new BW range, early spool from the Ti wheel and flow like nothing else for their size. No other moving parts to fail and free flowing large split housings to lower manifold pressure and heat. Unfortunately they won't fit in the confines of the V35 engine bay.

Pull your head in mate. I'm interested in trying to find a solution to your pipe dream. Your talking with Scotty, who if there isn't something he doesn't know about vq turbos, it's not worth knowing, and I myself have done a VQ35 turbo into an awd stagea.

The turbo is only a small part of an overall kit, so why not consider using the pipe work and other parts. What turbo are you intending to put on it? Single or twins? Gt30, 35, 42? Re you going to buy an off the shelf item, or modify it yourself? That constricts the location and packaging.

Are you building a motor? The stock vq35 has notable flaws when using forced induction. But I'm sure you can engineer your way around that...

    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler? 
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
