I agree, using those ratchet stands worried me enough to go and buy proper 3T alloy pin stands. Plus many of them have been recalled.

I use the Cosco jack and these stands, with them I have jacked up more cars than anyone on here probably.

Or for less than a set of rims you can buy a full two post hoist like mine, they are much safer and you would be surprised how many mates would arrive with it.

Hold on!! I could have sworn I drove down the highway and saw this with a Soarer lifted up a while back. It's quite noticeable. If it's not you someone has a same setup like yours.

I remember driving past and thinking this guy has the right idea lol.

Where'd you see that one, niZmO? I was looking at some portable 4 posters (I presume all the portable ones would have to be 4 post) and they were around $5k. Sorely tempted to get one for the workshop (trying to juggle 3 cars and a trailer in the workshop is starting to get a bit lame, specially when I need access to all of them.

A hoist opens up another car parking spot. :)

That's me. You spied the V8 Soarer I fitted a gt35 to, in the boot.
The hoist stands out alright, especially when there is a car up on it. Must paint it red to match the shed one day. :P

as long as its not too windy yeah :whistling:

I had it up in gale force gusts the other day, it was moving around a little, but it was also a great test. The car does act as a decent sail up in the air like that.

Only cost me 3k, and it wasn't the cheapest one, you can get full 2 post hoists for sub 2k these days.

It's been a while, a friend showed them to me. The price may be drastically different, but I remember them being more than $2,000.

Lol yeh saw how you did that on here somewhere very nice setup. Didn't know that was the Soarer tho.

scotty when you do a costco run, can you let me know? id love one of those costco jacks.......

pretty please?

Ok mate, it's nearly time I bought a new one myself, this one has done a lot of work.

Well if you do one on a Tuesday or Wednesday (stupid retail working weekends) and can come to the Ringwood one, let me know. I'll buy a jack then too. Plus I only live five minutes from the Ringers Costco.

Just bought the stands you linked to on Ebay Also, Scott.

I think they are all sold out at the moment. When I went there just after the new year they were out of stock and said that they weren't getting more until March. I went to the one in Docklands though.

If they are there can someone PM me?

I'll see if I can get in on my housemate's membership tomorrow. I won't be buying anything because jack stands plus two phone bills mean I have no money to spend.

Try ebay, i got mine of a jack specalist locally who was importing them and also selling them on ebay.

Yeah but they put a premium on them on eBay. Some people are trying to get $500 for them.

I will wait until March when they are supposed to get more in. If that fails I'll buy one off eBay

The Ebay sellers go in and buy the lot when they arrive, then sell them to unsuspecting purchasers for a premium. It shits me and I have complained to Costco a few times, as they won't hold stock, even for warranty return customers.

Don't buy ratchet car stands, the pin type can't fail catastrophically. ;)

    • What do you mean?  In between the two I shared?  They're the same boost   This will be insane.   A mate has a GTSt with a 9:1 RB30/25 with Tomei 256 cams and a Borg S362SX-E that is already a beast from the basement but has a stock 5 speed and will probably get a ZF8 one day.  After the G35 900 RB26 setup I'd be lying if the topic of "Wtf would a divided G35 be like on this thing?" idea hadn't come up - you'd definitely want a wide boost control range setup with it, as even with the less responsive and potent S361 we're having to ramp boost in from very low levels in the early gears.
    • ZF8 is faster, wider ratio spread, better in every way. I do not dispute this. But I have brain damage and I want the feeling of shifting gears. To me the extra work is fun, but I daily an automatic and in the US like 90+% of cars are automatic so a manual transmission is an "exotic" experience. If I want an automatic I've driven an F80 M3 with DCT more than a few times and it's incredibly capable but it's emotionally vacant to me.
    • Different folks for different folks I guess - for me, the 6MT > ZF8 claim is wild.  If I had a manual Skyline I'd be saving up fix that with a ZF8.  I went for a M135i, has the N55 which resolves a lot of the issues the N54 has, it already has the ZF8, is barely heavier than an R34 GTt, full boost before 2000rpm while also being real-word-faster than my old 280kw @ hubs R33 GTS25t and doing absolutely everything better.  There's nothing I'd change on it to be more like my old Skyline, tbh... it doesn't sound the same but it's got it's own awesome sound - definitely not worse.   To be fair I can't argue with most of those points.  I guess i was pointing it out as a comparison for a Skyline GTR and it's much closer all around there, like the weight difference between an M240i and an R34 GT-R isn't that much etc.   As above, I ended up getting an M135i which is in the 1400kg range - the M140 and M240is that you can get up till 2018 are B58, ZF8, RWD and in the 1400kg range which is a bit of fun... but doesn't fit the tyre etc of the Supra.  They are a run drive, though- maybe no an A90 Supra but a huge upgrade over a Skyline "sporty chassis" wise.
    • Im loving this thread. I have a g35/900 t4 split 1.00 ar going on my rb30/25 with 9:1 and 264 cams. its drive by wire and with vct i think it should spool nicely. I have the 8speed gearbox on the floor ready to go on so full boost changes will be a thing if the tyres can deal with it. it should always be on boost
    • The trouble for me is the automatic takes away so much from it. And the E92 has hydraulic power steering. Even after putting in an LSD you're looking at re-mapping the xDrive to be more like a Skyline which is just a lot of effort for something that is supposed to be easier and cheaper. I consider the E92 335i 6MT to basically be the obviously superior car to something like an R34 GTT. Half the price out here, the N54 makes so much more power so easily, is a far more refined car, etc. You do have to deal with the nightmare of the N54's foibles vs the B58 which is comparatively miles better and if a turbo does fail it's only one of them vs two and a lot less pipe spaghetti.  996 or 997 Turbo has the AWD system mapped like a Skyline. Basically always RWD unless engaging the front axle makes sense. A coworker let me drive his 997.2 Turbo 6MT and it's absolutely tremendous. I don't think I'd want more power in a street car.
