Mick how does your system go for noise suppression?

It would have plenty of flow capacity, be good to see pics for how it looks and fits.

It's a lot quieter then the 80mm jap exhaust I took off, it's not that loud until you get on the loud pedal then it gets up there, but idleing it has a nice tough murmur, Paul heard it tonight maybe he can comment on it

I have GT-RSs on the car so I needed as much flow as I could fit under the car

How about this , where your oxygen probe goes get a plug and drill/tap/braze whatever a take off into it and measure the pressure in the exhaust behind the turbocharger .

Compare it to boost pressure and note the difference .

It may not be a bad idea to pull the cat out and see if its blocked or collapsed as well . Changing that mid muffler shouldn't be a biggie surely .

Compare it to boost pressure and note the difference .

That's not really the ratio you're supposed to look at against boost pressure though. Ex manifold pressure against boost - yeah, fine. But not really dump pressure. Realistically, if you have more than a couple of psi of back pressure in the exhaust you're looking at a substantial restriction. So measuring the pressure there is a fine idea, but you're really just looking for the absolute amount of backpressure.

It would also pay to measure after the cat too, just to see if the cat is the problem or if the mid muffler is the problem.

But, my 2c on that issue is (which coincides with a lot of opinions above)

1) Why not just drop the exhaust behind the dump and take it for a quick drive, see if it changes behaviour?

2) Unless there is a massive step down in the muffler(s) it should still handle quite a bit of gas flow without killing the power. So you have to wonder about tthe cat more than any other part.

Well this thread is about exhaust restriction and anything significantly positive behind the turbocharger under load tells a story . I just picked on the sensor location because it's an easy place to tap from . If that exhaust is restrictive and gets fixed the dump pressure should fall and so should the exhaust manifold pressure . Boost and power characteristics should change as well .

What do you guys think of this - ok or a pile of junk? The cat is a gutted catco item (what I was suggested with a bit of reluctance), the mid-muffler looks 3" in/out (no necking like mine), the rear muffler is a crappy jasma cannon but free-flow from the look of things.

System is off a 33GTST goin for cheap ( I know 34 is slightly shorter) and the I'm thinkin of buying it..

Doesn't seem too bad for $100

Has a gutted cat already and a 3inch in and out same side mid muffler so that shouldn't be a problem

Just sack that rear cannon as most jasma approved mufflers have a smaller inner pipe which the oval muffler should fix

Worth it for $100 imagine how much it will be for a new custom 3inch catback atleast $500

The step down pipe is rarely in the mid muffler

Is almost always in the rear muffler or cannon

If the mid muffler is stepped down it's usually on the inlet or outlet and not internal as that muffler isn't offset so will be straight pipe thru just perforated and packing around it

    • Let's be honest, most of the people designing parts like the above, aren't engineers. Sometimes they come from disciplines that gives them more qualitative feel for design than quantitive, however, plenty of them have just picked up a license to Fusion and started making things. And that's the honest part about the majority of these guys making parts like that, they don't have huge R&D teams and heaps of time or experience working out the numbers on it. Shit, most smaller teams that do have real engineers still roll with "yeah, it should be okay, and does the job, let's make them and just see"...   The smaller guys like KiwiCNC, aren't the likes of Bosch etc with proper engineering procedures, and oversights, and sign off. As such, it's why they can produce a product to market a lot quicker, but it always comes back to, question it all.   I'm still not a fan of that bolt on piece. Why not just machine it all in one go? With the right design it's possible. The only reason I can see is if they want different heights/length for the tie rod to bolt to. And if they have the cncs themselves,they can easily offer that exact feature, and just machine it all in one go.

    • This is how I last did this when I had a master cylinder fail and introduce air. Bleed before first stage, go oh shit through first stage, bleed at end of first stage, go oh shit through second stage, bleed at end of second stage, go oh shit through third stage, bleed at end of third stage, go oh shit through fourth stage, bleed at lunch, go oh shit through fifth stage, bleed at end of fifth stage, go oh shit through sixth stage....you get the idea. It did come good in the end. My Topdon scan tool can bleed the HY51 and V37, but it doesn't have a consult connector and I don't have an R34 to check that on. I think finding a tool in an Australian workshop other than Nissan that can bleed an R34 will be like rocking horse poo. No way will a generic ODB tool do it.
    • Hmm. Perhaps not the same engineers. The OE Nissan engineers did not forsee a future with spacers pushing the tie rod force application further away from the steering arm and creating that torque. The failures are happening since the advent of those things, and some 30 years after they designed the uprights. So latent casting deficiencies, 30+ yrs of wear and tear, + unexpected usage could quite easily = unforeseen failure. Meanwhile, the engineers who are designing the billet CNC or fabricated uprights are also designing, for the same parts makers, the correction tie rod ends. And they are designing and building these with motorsport (or, at the very least, the meth addled antics of drifters) in mind. So I would hope (in fact, I would expect) that their design work included the offset of that steering force. Doesn't mean that it is not totally valid to ask the question of them, before committing $$.
    • The downside of this is when you try to track the car, as soon as you hit ABS you get introduced to a unbled system. I want to avoid this. I do not want to bleed/flush/jack up the car twice just to bleed the f**kin car.
