Yep that was Sub boy - a fellow Skylines Downunder member who lives near the Link factory. I would trust him but fair enough if you don't want to.

No disrespect meant by it. just have been burned before with money and the internet. Least if its in aus i can go see them ;)

Oh right - he's a good man, I believe he works for NZEFI who actually are a reputable Kiwi company

New Zealanders are dodgy and paranoid.

;)

:pirate: Arrrr!

I've never used a Link/ViPec so I can't comment :)

I've used, tuned nistune/haltech/adaptronic/powerfc

But Lithium swears by them and I trust his judgement.

Refer to above quote, hahaha ;) But yeah, I've only tuned PowerFC, ViPEC and Link out of that list and the Link/ViPEC are really nice to use and it seems they are in a development phase post G4+ release.... I suspect the G4+ base (ie, ViPECs too) is going to get better and better with coming firmware updates.

No point over doing what you are getting if it costs a lot more, you don't have much to spend, and you aren't going to use the features - but IMHO an ECU like this is a one time purchase so you may as well do it right the first time... as it can be a pain feeling held back if you decide you could have done with more.

$800!!!!! is there any other way to feed input to the VIPEC using the factory knock sensors? cant see why it doesn't use them if they exist on the car?

i am not paying $800 for knock sensor input

You're not paying for the input you're paying for the ability to analyse the input - other similar products are $1000 or more.

If you want a cheaper product this is less than 1/3 the price:

    • Hard to say, just pop the rocker covers off and have a look if you think it's cammed. You probably need to replace the valve cover gasket/half moons anyways.
    • From my youth: GTi-R clutch change is a massive pain. The gearboxes are fragile? But the car is super cool and I want one 😢

    • Driveline vibration is resolved. I ended up loosening all my engine mount and trans mount bolts, giving it a good shake then retightening everything and it's gone... Let's just say I was surprised that fixed it.  I've been happily driving it around again but unfortunately put zero time into my direct port/constant pressure WMI setup. I'm on vacation next week, so I'll try and finalize it then.  On a different note, I spent all week fuel/ignition mapping 2x 216L V16 engines. Turbo's were burning glycol and we swapped them out for larger units. We also had planned emissions testing on site, so I figured I'd be there the same week to use their instrumentation and massage any emissions issues out if needed. This was a first for me. Fuel management is similar in certain ways to automotive (i.e air density as load variable) but very different in others. It's all PLC based and AFR's are controlled by air and not fuel. They use a control valve between the turbo and air manifold to control pressure which in turn controls AFR's. Due to this, target AFR tables supplied by the OEM are in pressures and not mass which really through me off. They use air pressure vs fuel pressure tables. I also relied on an O2 concentration sensor the emissions team had in the exhaust. Ignition timing was also all over the place and we were losing a fair bit of power. They're now happily sitting at 16-40BTDC depending on load. We were making about 1600kw at 900rpm at 90% load. Engines were running a lot smoother as well.
