long story short, my turbo timer decided to switch itself back on without my knowledge.

moving the car around the throttle stuck wide open as id just popped it out of gear, so when i killed the ignition the bloody turbo timer kept it going.

looks like oil pressure dropped when it was revving nice & hard, & we all know what happens then.

motor still runs, but it makes nasty noises so ive taken to pushing it from 1 place to another to work on it. the last 2 butterflies are still being wedged open by something, im assuming inside the plenum as i cant locate any issues outside. when i disconnected the link to the main throttle assembly the rest snapped closed, so the issue is definitely in the rear 2 butterflies somewhere. il assess it when i strip it all down to clean & check.

shit go, but id just discovered it needed new gaskets & other stuff anyway....still, not the bill i was planning on.

now you guys get to read a longer build thread once its done lol

bit of progress stripping everything apart, now i have bits everywhere.

once i get a good block prepped along with the r33 crank, the build shall begin

added some new wheels as well, aiming for better traction when it's running again

ok so more detailed update after much time absent from the build thread

found the cause of the throttle sticking open....some little japanese bastard shoved a shirt in the intake that nobody ever saw, even after checking on 5 separate occasions prior to connecting cooler piping. i say some little japanese bastard because there's no way humanly possible either fatz or myself could fit in this tiny excuse for a shirt lol

fitted the 18" rims with wider rears aiming for better traction once the beast is running again

retrofitted an r32 GTR 320kp/h speedo to my already retrofitted gtr cluster

picked up an rb26/30 with the intention fitting the entire motor in place of my old sick rb26, but now thinking il just use the head which has been freshened up with 270 degree cams & several other good bits & pieces, then save the 3 litre bottom end to use with the original rb26 head for my cefiro when i get around to starting that (too many projects at once).

picked up some schmick flashy hks cam gears to help dial in the 270 degree cams when the rb26 is alive again too

also fitted a pair of turbosmart BOV's while things are all in pieces

1 last addition, not really noticeable with everything fitted to a motor, but the new turbos are now HKS 2530 items rather than the N1's, il probably keep them & rebuild them for an RB26/30 motor for the cefiro later in life

cheers

here's the cefiro for the moment before work begins. initially il probably freshen up the old rb20 from my skyline & get it back on the road with that, while i build the 26/30 for a transplant at a later date. it's an ex drifter so probably got a few things to change for road use

    • Unless you're fortunate enough to buy a newer car, getting an older style plate to match your name/car is difficult because they've already been purchased.  Unlike other countries, personalised plates are locked to the country and not region, so there can't be multiple versions of the same plate but with a different area code.  Hope that helps

    • That's why I said it is a meaningless term. Because there is more than one meaning that people can apply to it. When we said "highflow", that is exactly what we mean, and exactly what is done. In a highflow, they take your housing and machine them out to take bigger wheels, have a better internal profile, etc etc, and fit a new core with the different/better/bigger wheels.
