R34 Vs R35 - Not School Holidays Yet, This Is Not What You Think.

Recommended Posts

Oh also as per your original post. Don't put a 3L bottom end in it they sound like shit, and completely ruin the best thing about an RB26 (the engine note) it also isn't required for 300-400kw.

-5's and E85

Job done.

Seriously they sound like dog shit. Don't put 3L in it if you only want 300-400kw. The cost to do it for what you want is nowhere near worth it.

And whatever you do don't stroke the original motor in a vspec. Keep the motor standard specs and go from there.

-9's, -5's, -7's will all make it in the power range you want. -5's will be the higher of the range.

Have you even been in a properly setup GTR?

How can you be a purist about displacement but be fine swapping out turbos, exhaust, injectors and ECUs lol

I owned basic bolt on R33, nismo suspension, R34 turbos, tuned etc, been around DECA in Ash's 33 and in that Black 34, TPMGTR or TOPGTR or something like that on the plates.

Loved them all.

at 300-400kw the extra displacement isn't needed. Why make your car sound like shit if it isn't needed?

500+KW? Sure go for it but for 300-400 it isn't needed.

Fark my little -7's make 320awkw on 98 (E85 TBA in the next couple of weeks)

I don't think my 34 sounds like shit :(, but then I can't hear the exhaust at full boost any way so makes no difference to me

"Needed" is a subjective word, do you "need" 300-400kw or "need" to modify a GTR at all for that matter, it's all 100% about want

Also that way it looks stock from the outside

What's funny is if you and I where pulled over together and they opened both our bonnets I'm getting let go first cause my 450+kw 3.0 "looks" less modified :D

Well technically you don't "need" a 30 block for any power, even stupid 1000hp turbos will still make power on a 26. They'll just make power sooner on a 30. Honestly if I was going for -5's, (meaning I would be going for above 400kw's after all, if you're not getting 100% out of the turbos why not use smaller turbos) I'd be doing for a '30 bottom end because honestly some of the power curves around for them on 26's don't look that impressive from an area under the curve aspect.

I will go this Mick on this. I am building my car to what I "want" but I do "need" it to make me happy. If blokes love the sound and happy with how your car goes , that is great

I have never driven a Factory R34GTR , so I have no idea how they drive, love the sound.

When I bought my car the motor was worked, forged pistons and everything else in there, I would just have to add a big new tech turbo/s and cams I am sure I could have reached some impressive Dyno results, but you cannot drive the High HP Dyno results as a DD and I hated my peaky 338awkw R34GTR , did a little work and at 345awkw for response it was a car you could drive as a DD and I dare say , much faster than the extra 7awkw would imply.

I "want" more response with the torque the 3.2 will give me, so RB30 with a Nitto 3.2Lt to get it and really could not care how it sounds, as long as it drives the way I want.

What do think would happen with a Torquey 450awkw (610awhp) with a RB30 bottom , 3.2 stroker and built for response would go against a 610awhp peaky build , equal drivers , what car would win ??

Ok just to update, I have just finished my tune after my build (2.6). Retains twins, drives like factory and made 454kw on e85..... (610hp).

Its responsive and nice to drive.

Again would happily own a 35, but maintenance costs are the issue atm

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
