Ryco filters are ok;

This is from the M35 info thread, looks like your HR uses the same filters as VQs

Oil filter is Ryco Z436 or Z445 : Nismo (Veruspeed) 15208-RN010 : K&N: HP-1008 : Amsoil Ea012
z445 - seal diameter 63mm, height - 65mm, seam diameter - 68mm, thread size - M20-x1.5-6Hmm
z436 - seal diameter 64mm, height - 66mm, seam diameter - 69.50mm, thread size - M20-x1.5-6Hmm

So either of the rycos is ok since they're almost the same size, IIRC one is cheaper.

Are Ryco oil filters any good ? What's the correct part number for the VQ35HR ? Some said Z445 and some said Z436 ?

For some reason, the ryco webpage lists a Z436 for the V35, but Z445 for every other vehicle with the same engine, including the 350Z.

Most other sources list the Z445. The Z547 also fits, but is 20mm longer

I've got about another 250kms left until I'll be due for the first service since I've owned my V36.

I've been looking at the Martini Racing Oil line, but can't seem to workout where to buy it.

What are the current recommended good quality oils I should be looking into?

That's a fair point, but I bet these days its unlikely any of the oils sold are likely going to cause an engine to self destruct.

I ended up referring to another forum bobistheoilguy.com and think I'll settle with an oil I can readily pick up from autobarn etc relatively cheap at $85 for 5L that seems to have good feedback from used oil analysis tests and users in general. Looks like I will settle with Liqui-Moly 5w30 Leichtluft special LL (seems Nissan run liqui-moly in their bathurst 12H GTR as well) and I'll run genuine filters.

I have been using Castrol Edge 5W-30 for years.. I just wait for one of the local auto stores to have a special on for around $40/5L and buy about 4 of them.. I use the same oil in my wife's J31 Maxima.

Maybe ill get crucified for this but I've used Castrol Edge 5w-30 for 4 services and found that the engine wasn't as smooth and fuel consumption was a tad worse compared to the Motul oil I am using now. Could be due to other factors that I am unaware of. So now I am sticking to Motul. But I am open to suggestions and trying out other oils as well.

I think some people swear by what they use cause their mechanics use specific oils and tell them how good they are. At the end of the day comes down to personal preference....imo anyway

yeah, I think a lot is personal preference. in my last car I tried lots of different oils (of the same weight), and couldn't detect any difference between any of them in terms of performance or economy, so these days I just stick with a reasonable quality oil that doesn't cost too much.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
