-----

“Skills Training Group” sessions are a separate group in this event and Drivers participate only in this group.

  • The Initial Skills Training session will be conducted under the control of a pace car. Drivers that have nominated for Skills Training will be driven by a Driver Advisor (up to 4 occupants in a vehicle) in a sedan. The Driver Advisor will complete a number of laps (under space car control) educating on line, braking, acceleration, cornering and other skills.
  • Thereafter; Skills Training sessions will consist of an Eight (8) minute timed session, plus cool down lap. The number of laps in this component may be varied at the discretion of the Clerk of Course. Cars will be released onto the circuit one at a time with a suitable gap between each car.

-----

SAU VIC are conducting this event.

This event has a focus on driver training and skills improvement. The event will be un-timed, meaning we can run passenger laps.

While there is a focus on training for the day, more experienced drivers are welcome and will be grouped appropriately. So if you are looking to test your car, take your mates for a ride or just come to a low stress track day this is the one to come to.

There will be SAU VIC member pricing discount for this event along with SAU VIC membership discounts
.

so no come and try licences available ala' rexnet richo?

Unclear on that one yet...

Do we need to be an SAU member to attend? I notice it says affiliate clubs in the supp regs, is that CAMS affiliated clubs?

Very keen to come along to learn some new skills.

You'll need to be a member of a CAMS car club

Just sign up for a full year one. Only like $90 bucks :/

+1, if you want to come and do a motorkhana or any other track day in the next 12 months, then you've blown money on a Come and Try licence for nothing. Just get the full one and enter ALL of the events.

  • 2 weeks later...

What do I need to do to be able to attend this meet I'm not a member of any car club and I don't have a cams license

Hi Andy,

The simplest way is to:

1. Sign up to a CAMS Affiliated Car Club. Obviously the best / cheapest is SAUVIC ( http://www.sauvic.com.au/sauvic_app ), then once you have an SAU VIC Membership number...

2. Sign up for a CAMS Licence (Level 2 Speed (L2S)) at ( www.cams.com.au )

3. Create an account for Cams Event Entry ( www.meecamsau.com ), set up Driver Details and Car Details, then Enter the event :)

4. Do some basic preparation on the car, strip out loose items, install a fire extinguisher from Autobarn, etc

  • 4 weeks later...

Thanks to O-brake Australia & RacePace Motorsport our Sandown track day is almost here. Saturday 4th of April is only a few weeks away.

While we don't have natsoft timing on the day, you can use your phone / lap timer. This day is going to be relaxed with lots of laps! So a good day to try out damper settings, aero, tyres pressures and driving technique. Oh and the passenger laps, so bring your partner, friends and family along.

We have a special driver skills group for those that are new, or just want some tips on getting around the track faster.

Enter via the link below, if you don't have a CAMS license yet still use the entry link below. Just type TBA in the CAMS license field. If you are TBA'ing your license you will need to complete the CAMS forms and bring them along on the day, this is only for SAU VIC members, if you are a member of another club you'll need to do this via your club.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
