I've hit a van's mirror once (good luck to them catching you), but you generally have more room than it looks like from third person perspective. You pick and choose your splits and weaves. Trucks are usually a no go as they always have a narrow gap between them and the car in the lane next to it.

Splitting is much safer in peak hour traffic I think, but the dangerous spots are those keep clear spaces where cars can just randomly pull out into your lane because they see cars stopped before it.

Yeah fair enough, definitely something to keep in mind, thanks!

Unless you are in Russia and have a GoPro

then it's anyone's f**king game

Speaking of, is it still illegal to have cameras attached to your helmet?

I've always thought as I watch people split to the front, don't you ever come REALLY close to knocking someones mirror off, or putting a scratch down someones quarter panel?

Yeah I've tapped a mirror at like 35km/h.. guy tooted (he was at a standstill) stopped and looked back, wasn't smashed or anything and was only an old VN commodore so kept going.

You get better and better at guaging the width, and once it gets narrow just slow it down a lot / walk it through almost. It'll take you a month or so before you even become comfortable about lane splitting big gaps but eventually you just try and find your way through, i even go down turning lanes sometimes and then just wind out in front of the straight traffic sitting at the lights.

oh and if you get stuck half way down splitting because the gap is too small at the mirrors etc. just stop inbetween the cars roll back a bit let them go and continue on your way.

Yeah fair enough, cos I've always held the idea that getting to the front of traffic and away from them when it goes green is one of the best tactics you can do on the road, but getting to the front of that line definitely makes me a little uneasy!

Haha Dezz just jelly cos no one cares about him riding a motorbike [emoji22]

My family and friends care about me, only they aren't a drain on my finances and don't stop me from doing whatever the f**k I want whenever the f**k I want smileyface. Jpeg

Love the old turning lane to front of lights trick. Hate it when the lights to green though and you have to cut in.

Also Matt if riding in packs it's considerate to go down the split to the front and then peel out to the side a bit to let fellow riders through to the front next to you. But you learn all that anyway.

Yes getting ahead of traffic and staying the fk away from cars altogether is a good idea most of the time. However those are just the guys who try to merge you off the road with their blind spot or plain shitty awareness.

The ones you really gotta watch for are people pulling out on you from a side street onto a main road - and they're more likely to do this to a bike on it's own with no traffic around it (in this case riding with traffic can be safer). Also, getting to the front of the lights is good, just make sure you look both ways before taking off quickly, even when your light is green, cause plenty of people run reds and a lot of motorcyclists have died this way.

Yeah usually those right turners on a straight green light when it goes orange/red you really gotta watch for

    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
