I made a thread about turbo selection before and came to the conclusion of a kinugawa td05, should see nice response along with decent overall power and they're relatively cheap and decent quality, however its nice to see a couple more options out there on a budget

Fair enough, i'm well out of the rb20 game now.

Mike, I had a stock series 2 R33 turbo on my old R32, from memory it was almost as punchy in the low revs... and fell over almost as soon in the high revs, only made 174rwkw with a tune. May have been an issue with my decision to go for an ARC side-mount instead of a front mount though. Looking back i really wish i'd put in a kit to measure the air temps before/after the cooler, I bet that they were going crazy but I can't be sure.

You'd need to get some machining done to fit the correct profile, about $150 ish depending on who does it. Note i don't think you can do this for a gtx2860, only a gtx2863, i've run into issues trying to get gtx2860's sorted for gtr suitable comp covers. issue is that gtx2860's are smaller than 2530's (and all of the other gtr style ball bearing comp covers), so you can't exactly machine in extra material

You are confusing GTRs and GTSt. The comp cover can be an issue if you are trying to use std cooler pipes on your GTR with GTX turbo. On a GTSt just use the std GTX compressor cover that comes with the turbo! No machining required!

how much power/torque are you actually after?

Perhaps a stock R34 NEO turbo might just suit your needs.. I recently road tuned a R34 NEO turbo bolted to a RB20DET and it's not too bad in terms of lag and power.

Didn't put it on the dyno so no idea lol..

just put timing into the motor till I could hear a touch of knock then backed a few degrees off.

I'm convincing him to just put a RB25DET NEO into it lol

Ok, I have an RB20 turbo high flow from Hypergear on my car. First link here is when I got my E85 tune. If I had a biggier fuel pump and injectors I could have made more power.

I got sick of E85 and living further away from the pump than I used to, so I switched back to 98RON, this is that tune. Didn't have the budget to go flex.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
