Was My Car Boosted ?

Hi new here, Im 17 and drive a r34 gt Rb25 neo NA. Ive noticed a few weird things about my car... I read on a forum here that red gt badges on the side of your car mean it is the Gtt version. How ever mines just NA Im the third owner of the vehicle so maybe the other two changed the badge. But the car is pretty stock except an exhaust kit and pod filter. The other odd thing is that it has a turbo timer installed instead of an ash tray. The second owner (previous owner) said the timer only comes on if the car has been ru and is really hot it will stay on for 30 seconds before turning off. Its winter at the moment and I've only had it a few months, thus i haven't experienced that. But could be a noob question why install a turbo timer when the car is NA and the red badges just odd maybe he wanted to look boosted idk.

googled what ive tried to dig up as ,much as i could but yeah hence i ended up here. The service history is odd too, the 1st owner had heaps of camber apparently on the service report

Hey mate, welcome to the boards!

I don't think your car has had a turbo. There are lots of cars kicking around with turbo timers whether they're turbo or not.

Badges are easy to change.

dont think ive ever seen the blue badges? unless its been damaged and repaired with turbo body panels

Yeah but i thought the non turbos have a blue and white badge where as boosted was red and white, mine is NA but has he red and white gt badge.

Just look at the build tag in engine bay and will say rb25de or rb25det??

If it says det then sheeeiittt. It would drive like a bag of dicks with no turbo.

Also, camber wear was probably due to being slammed.

I'm not sure whether to be depressed by this thread or not. On the one hand it's great to see a kid so young they don't understand the concept of "ricer mods" (swapped badges for higher-spec model, turbo timers on NA cars etc), while on the other hand I have a beer to drown my sorrows at the thought kids too young to remember the heyday of ricer mods are now old enough to drive.

I'd say one of the previous owners just threw some money at mods he thought made the car look cool. You'll come across many of these examples as your enthusiasm for cars grows. Don't read too much into it. Welcome aboard.

Back when I was in year 12, I had a friend who bought a dirt cheap Corolla and put a boost gauge on it (standard N/A 4AGE powered).

His N/A RX7 (FC) also had one hahahaha.

Turbo timers and badges can be installed/changed, so don't look too much into it.

A lot of "Turbo timers" are marketed as "Auto timers" so N/A folk don't get discouraged.

Good business model, why limit your market to turbo only?

The truth is no one here will know what anyone before you has done to your car. As a pessimist, the badge, which is attached to the front guards, could be indicative of a front end accident and the repairer replaced with any guards they could find. On the other hand it could be a "ricer mod" as indicated.

In my opinion, red badges just look better! I'm assuming the previous owner thought the same thing!
