100% you should get the machine shop to grub screw the crank, even just that light linish you did will create crap in the oil galleries; the cost of another rebuild is no way worth the risk

A lot of it is over stated I think, BUT, measure/check everything, again and again, and if something isn't right, find out why.

You already seem to have a good handle on it and people around you, starting from a better point than me I think (didn't own a micrometer etc).

Don't own shit, all the measuring tools are on loan. Definitely is a massive help, otherwise I probably wouldn't have even contemplated doing all this. I also have access to a bore dial gauge in a lab environment that they won't let me borrow but can use. I'm going to use that one to check the bores on the maxpeeding rods. Let's see how they go.

If not, there's a guy that's willing to sell his built RB25DET NEO with full cold/hot side and he'll throw in a working car too LOL

The price is only 1x M3 Competition.

Why not just have both..

Because inflation.

Unrelated but what should I replace Mondeo with?

2016-17 era Passat R Line - AWD/FWD, DSG, turbo 2L 200kw (will add tune), more modern safety tech/features, use less fuel, probably faster once tuned, but maybe more euro headaches/repairs/issues because turbo and euro?

or

2014 era Lexus IS350 F Sport - RWD, 8 spd conventional auto, 2GR NA v6 bulletproof engine, use more fuel, but probably never need any repairs (I have a 1GR in my Prado and it's bulletproof), but less exciting to drive maybe, maybe slower? I will likely tune it too. Maybe bit wanker image (I have to go see IT business clients in whatever i am using for tmy school run car).

Both will be 25-28k, with 70-90ks or so

Thanks

Out of those 2 definitely is350f if you don't want vw problems. The vw will be faster, not sure about nicer. Not sure on the reliability of that particular VW. I know the golf mk7 R is pretty reliable other than water pump.

VW for fasts, Lexus for stress free motoring. Hope I helped, lol.

clearly the answer to that question is V37 hybrid. Right price, good on fuel, goes good

That is not 25-28k with under 100ks on it...

Holy thread derailment batman!

You can totally grub screw the crank yourself if you are looking to save time / money, just use a bit of care and NPT taps.

I have broken an NPT tap off in a crank before, it wasn't fun to remove. Make a basic slide hammer out of a bit of all thread the plugs are not that tight (which always surprises me).

The other option is just get one of these, then you won't have to waste time.

Yeah I think I'm going to try the grub screwing with the help of the machinist at work to save some $.

Do they do snap on style payment plans for those crank? Might make it doable 😂

    • Jax Tyres Smithfeild Ive gone there a few time, well for tyres. on my 3rd visit I spoke to the dude and told how i just got slugged for rotors, brakes ect. His reply was golden; have you read whats on the front of the building. • Hello, first of, I’ve looked at many threads on this code but none have helped me, if you know one that will help me feel free to post a link.   Now to my problem. Recently I was driving and noticed the check engine light came on. I went home and did the test to see what code it gave. I got the 21 code but everything seems fine with the car, no misfire, idle is good, acceleration is the same as when I bought it. I mean no signs of obvious failure. If no misfire is happening I can rule out the coil packs right? Which is about 98% of posts saying it is. If anyone has had this happen and found the issues let me know please. No other lights are on.   The car WAS due for an oil change. I since then changed it so idk if that triggers code 21. Either way it hasn’t turned off.
    • Your both right, it may hold a bit longer then.  Soon I need to change the synchros, should I fit the billet plate while I'm at it? Or just a waste of money?
    • Some of the east coast US Stagea got together this past weekend at Lime Rock Park in CT for Grid Life Circuit Legends. This is probably my favorite pic of the shoot with @Morgan.Mundahl on IG. Hope we get more stags out next year! i think I spotted 5 other than my own at the event.
