Hi Guys i am quite new to the car scene i recently just purchased a 180 shell which i overpaid for quite a lot for since i didn't really know anything about cars. Previously i owned a honda integra dc5 type S which was both my daily and weekender toy. I have currently purchased over 10 grand in second hand parts which have not even been installed yet. The shell has a fair bit of rust when i purchased the shell as did not check under it as i was suggested to buy this shell by my best mate who owns a black s2k . I'm planning on paying for a 3 grand respray which includes dent repair and rust repair. There is a hole caused by the rust underneath the chassis but i was told that a plate is going to be welded to it so it should be fine. So far i have spent 12k on the car and it is still not running right to the way i want as it is in need of an oxy sensor and afm.

I am only a P plate driver so i want to keep the car P plate legal. I want the car to make at least 250kw at the rears and i am willing to pay for parts needed. I was told sr20de engines easily make 400kw. I was told of several places that can do this is Garage worx, Edge motorworks, Jak motorworks and Chasers Motorworks as these shops are considered nissan specialist and can dyno tune my car for 250kw.

i don't really trust jak and chasers so i won't take my car to them. I would like your thoughts on Garage worx and edge motorworks.

If you run space savers on the rears it will feel like it makes 250kw.

But seriously its not worth the time or buckets of money to get that kind of power from NA. Buy turbo bits then wait till youre old enough. A $3k respray is going to be fairly shit, and thats not even including dint or rust repair.

SR20DETs can make 400kW. SR20DEs, you'll be spending a lot of money to make 200kW. A "T" makes a big difference.

Now, I'm from a small set of islands far off the East coast of Aussie, but from what I understand "over 10 grand in second hand parts" and "P plate legal" don't really go hand-in-hand, unless maybe that's all stereo gear or a very, very fancy set of wheels that will go missing in about 4 weeks' time. I thought engine mods were pretty much a no-no?

OP, you're getting "told" a lot of things and spending money on hearsay. Stop listening to friends and start reading or asking professionals.

Agree with above; cut your losses any way you can. Accept you made a mistake and move on. Dreams take time and you're rushing in gung-ho. Buy a decent n/a car for your P plates and then sell it. Then buy a decent turbo car. Do nothing but this.

3k with dent removal will be a shit job unless part of the deal is you're doing the spraying yourself...in which case it will be a shit job.

Thanks for the advice guys...

I have contacted Garage worx and they told me not to give up hope on the car. They told me i can still be restored and since I've already spent so much on it i shouldn't really cut my losses just yet. Garage worx told me to proceed with the 3k respray and repair as they told me it's a really good quote so i will be getting the car resprayed next week.

Sweet.

Post pics please. Before and after the plate gets welded over the chassis rust.

Is the shell rego able?

i'll try to get some photos in

i think the shell is able to be regoed, when it was a det, it was once regoed so i'm pretty sure it can be regoed

Oh lawd. Stop. Stop stop stop stop stop.

Stop.

"I think" doesn't cut it when it comes to rego, unless you intend to keep it off the street, permanently. Find out FOR SURE if it's still able to be rego'd before doing ANYTHING else. There's no need to rush through this, you'll only get further in the hole.

I really hope this works out for you, but you need to step back and do some due diligence before carrying on.

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
