hey i have an r33 s2 gtst and i need a new timing belt on it, i was wondering if the gears have marks on them that you lime up with the belt so that it is installed perfect, i know it needs to be tuned and stuff after the belt is installed but if i can change the belt myself and be able to start and drive the car safely then i can just get the timing tuned. I was just worried that if it didnt have marks so i know the right alignment of the gears that i could damage the engine when i go to start it

The gears do have marks on them, but you line them up with marks on the metal plate behind the gears, not with marks on the belt. Basically you line up each cam gear with it's mark, and set the crank to o degrees, then put the belt on without moving any of them. If you set the crank to 0 degrees on the timing marker before removing anything, the cams will be already lined up (assuming the cam timing is correct to start with).

I would also change the water pump, timing belt tensioner & idler, and the camshaft seals while it's apart.

Also....why would you need a tune after replacing it????  Hell No!!!!  You aren't replacing/renewing anything that affects or changes the tune.
Follow the guide and drive!!!

He wants to adjust cam gear timing...
I honestly though most people didn't do this anymore because of the gains vs dyno cost.

Not accurately enough. You need to use a timing gauge light to get it right.

I could never get my timing light to work correctly on an rb. Mine is the clamp over line type. Not a direct plug.
From memory it was showing off the scale, like 40+ deg

I honestly set and forget. I'll take it to my mates shop soon and see if we can get it spot on using measurements and pen marks.

    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
