Finally bit the bullet and put this complicated thing in. Plumbing and wiring was fairly easy although I didn’t hook up the rpm and tps wires(blue and white), I didn’t want it to mess with my tps system and read that it’s ok to not have these hooked up, I’d I’m wrong let me know. My air fuels are still good and car still runs great. If you have this boost controller and have any pointers for me on the settings would be much appreciated. I have my target boost set in both a and b (14 and 18). I don’t plan on using “scramble mode “ or any special features, just want to make sure I haven’t missed anything and I know there’s lots of smart mates out there.  And yes I have the manual and have read it lots I’m just a shitty learner by reading. Always dive head first and find out what’s up.I more or less put it in cause it looks cool and my son likes it says wow when it turns on.  I do have a haltec so I can tune with that and just pull this thing back out if you guys think it’s a bad idea. I would like to keep it as my boost gauge tho I think it looks great! Also I mounted the step motor upside down as you can see cause it fit nice there let me know if this is also dumb, hopefully the long vac line to the wastegates isn’t an issue(should it be mounted closer to gates). Just looking for pointers or confirmation that my setup is nice. Thanks mates sorry for hammering away just trying to be thorough.

P.H. would be Peak Hold.

PSI, because....it's reading out in PSI. No?

Hey buddy, Yeah mate I get the psi in bottom right that’s nice, I just don’t know why it’s always reading peak hold in top right. I’m trying to change that. The warning boost setting is nice, hear it the odd time in lower gears.

Peak Hold is a good thing. It shows the highest boost achieved for a short period of time after each boost event. I'm not sure why you'd want to turn it off.

Your a smarter man than I am I will leave it as is. It holds boost way better now which is wierd and my air fuels are better now. So what ever it’s doin I’m gunna leave it.

I also have 2 brand new old school hks compound 60mm gauges I’m gunna plumb in tonight.(I’ll post a picture there dope) It’s the only aftermarket pieces I’m showing on the inside of the car any good ideas for a spot to mount them up? Clean and sleek I don’t wanna use my glovebox tho.

There's no good spot to mount more gauges in a GTR. The only halfway decent way to do it is with a full replacement A pillar mount, so that you don't drill holes in your original one.

my centre vent has some dash shrinkage, I don't use my centre vent only my defrost its always snowing and crap conditions where I live so need the heat there always. kind of fun really though the weather. I was going to remove it and make a custom mount/plate that's flush when bolted down. ( my friend has a lazer plasma table can cut cool stuff for me.) try to wrap it in the same finish as the interior dash.

They are ok, there are better ones out there these days...there always is!!!

I have 7 btw, so same sh#t different bucket.

truth be told I didn't even know there was a seven. looks really good definitely nicer than the 5. I didn't like the look of the 6 at all. but who cares really its all junk kinda. i only paid 200 dollars for mine. manual boost controller is nice as far as im concerned. this stuff is bells and whistles!

Old school option for mounting.

Lots of various options with a quick google search. Some will even retain vent functionality.

If the car feels better coming onto boost its likely your tuner hasn't setup the haltech boost control properly. Generally ramp the duty cycle to 100% and taper it off to get desired boost level. Helps with larger turbos. Depending on the what haltech you have it will have open or closed loop options.

My haltec is set Up at 100 percent Duty cycle and I’m in open loop...I’ll get my tuner to look into this further. My haltec ecu was a used platinum I got off ebay. Seems to work just fine tho. And yeah goin with the centre dash mount forsure. Thanks for the help mate. Cheers

There used to be a 3 gauge pod for R33's, I got one for mine.  I can't remember who, some business called Taikaka or something was doing them.  It was years ago, sorry I can't be more exact....lost in the mists of time.

And yeah, re the EVC 5, what was once the cutting edge of boost management and getting the nest out of your turbo only 5 or 10 years ago [and which worked fine] are now outdone by the next big thing.  But you can get some absolute bargains out there if you are willing to step back from 'modern'.  I know my tuner keeps telling me to ditch my 7 for something better...…..but why, ok on a dyno it shows less response than a modern one, but it works fine on the open road, no lag or issues felt at all.

I was the same at first as I didn't want gauges interfering with my stock interior. There's really not many spots you can mount 60mm gauges unless you sacrifice your right hand vent?

I ended up making my own glove box setup. At least you can close the lid and instantly hide them?

@MoMnDadGTR I also came across this ash tray mount for the HKS EVC. I'm trying to get my hands on one. Figured you may also be interested in something like this?

hey mate I really wanted to buy the mount that gets rid of the ash tray like the bottom picture. I thought this was a special buy a long long time ago that someone was making custom on the site...if I could find this piece this is exactly what I want for the controller. or I could just make it I guess... my hks gauges and aem wideband im doing in the glovebox like you. I sure would love to find that ashtray mount infact I would pay for yours if you find a group buy etc.

Just an FYI to everyone if you didn’t know, where you mount the step motor makes a big difference In how you need your gain set on your evc. Because mine is mounted so far away from the wastegates I had to crank my gain. I didn’t have this done, and This lack of knowledge caused me to spike at 32 psi last night and I chucked one of my Garrett’s. Anyways this is how I have mine mounted until i figure my mounting situation, used a sanding block lol. If anyone has any info on gain setting etc or more info on the controller let me know thanks boys n gals.

I spoke to the guy on the GTR UK forum today. I'll know by the weekend if there's some stored away but he is also happy to make a few more if required. I'll let you know how I go.

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
