I got this car in pretty rough shape but it had a running 25 neo, haltech and a specialties engine harness. It didnt run well, awful ecu calibration, blown tomei turbo, a fuel pump flying around the fuel tank and a parasitic drain on the battery. Ive had it for about a 1.5 years now at the time of starting this thread and Ive been thru every part of this car. Ive converted to electric fans, created a few relay circuits to eliminated the battery drain, relocated the battery and this list goes on and on. Its a fun side project so things aren't in a rush and I don't daily drive the car. It sees a few track days but I mostly run my Camaro ss for those. All work is done by me in my garage, even the ECU calibration. The over all paint job was sent to a body shop though.

So current mod list is

Engine-Rb25 neo stock with smoothed exhaust port humps

Tomei MX8265 rebuilt, 3inch side exit, Greddy FMIC, Haltech platinum,Tomei timing belt, Denso 550cc, zerofab fuel rail, DW400 pump, unknown IM and 90mm TB, grimmspeed boost controller, Ebay radiator, hks cap, mishimoto fans, Spec stage 2+ clutch, 12lb flywheel

Thanks, theres a bunch more to add but i cant edit the original post or delete the duplicated pics haha. I will just add it under

Then time for paint!IMG_20200817_153909.thumb.jpg.60b449350e26efd0ec4203e216b0c5b2.jpgIMG_20200902_180128.thumb.jpg.b30a5d98627466b9ed9384d4a563b7b0.jpgIMG_20200902_180457.thumb.jpg.227654f4e8b5a5b6c6e289868eb4b330.jpg

This was shortly followed by sticking brake calipers soooo you know the drillIMG_20200915_170900.thumb.jpg.a2f686af55aee91abe7b3bc239f9c064.jpg

and finally the current state, the noisy transmission got really bad so I pulled it and rebuilt it.

IMG_20201004_165550.thumb.jpg.8defa107982f773f2a0fb8a9512a6c32.jpgIMG_20201008_140948.thumb.jpg.6f4516669da3da96d779ed61f4893778.jpgIMG_20201020_135527.thumb.jpg.0954c15662c580ee2a1bc5b1ccfb5437.jpgIMG_20201020_150451.thumb.jpg.69cb27cb4a21b929a666218bfdacdb0a.jpg

and since the trans was out I mean why not pulled the engine? I'd been meaning to repaint the bay and drop in the freshly rebuilt Tomei turbo. Btw parts took months to ship over for the rebuild and I probably should have gone with a 3071r. oh well next year.

Found a few small issues such as a dirty oil pick up and a very rusty alternator which shows why I had some funky charging situations at times. Timing belt was worn and oil pump was inspected so overall glad I took the extra step to check it all.

Finally time to post an update. So while everything was out I managed to grind down the exhaust port humps whos existence just bothered me. 4 down 2 to go.IMG_20201024_120112.thumb.jpg.b1689e63dc423a3dfb3cbbe6c1521ac1.jpg

Im not crazy about the iron/ aluminum color combo so the whole combo is painted in a fresh duplicolor "ceramic" engine paint and cleared. The old cracked belt was replaced with a Tomei timing belt.IMG_20201027_195612.thumb.jpg.8cbdb0475dba09993bd04eac85cb7ec2.jpg

Then the main reason I pulled the motor is to handle this nasty engine bay.IMG_20201028_155802.thumb.jpg.5c24daea30f2d0b4e453d72b1df9ff09.jpg

So some scuffing and masking.

IMG_20201030_133027.thumb.jpg.118752775d1266431d53e54c56e02b17.jpg

Onward to some hi temp primer.

IMG_20201031_154044.thumb.jpg.0f206e8b07ed0a369eff6e37ff24303b.jpg

And then the finished product with 3 coats of primer, 3 color and 3 clear.IMG_20201101_163554.thumb.jpg.867c39531f486dbb6efd2a638cd0eb93.jpg

And finally shoehorned in this clean matching trans and engine combo with many wires and hoses being relocated, extended or eliminated.IMG_20201102_181421.thumb.jpg.645bc81d1eee82d42ff77aaba3b7e630.jpg

Just after this the car received a new electric mac boost solenoid.

Man you are brave putting engine and box in together into freshly painted bay!

Thanks, it was just me and my boy. I put the movers blanket over the rad support, tilted the car up and just guided it slowly. The risk out weighed the pain of installing the trans on the ground haha.

ya i got beaked from a few mates not to long ago for doing it this way. way easier than rotating the transmisison up and in and dropping it on your chest(well for a gtr). not fun.  i did this with gtr setups since i was 18.. which is even heavier no issues at all take me about 1-2 hours once i have it hanging depending on how smooth it goes. i was hanging my wallet crushing build last night with the transmission over my fresh paint didnt bat an eye. we do way sketchier shit at the farm everyday. ive pulled an rb with a skidsteer a couple times too that's the cats ass. I have floor jack waiting under neathe and lower engine and raise jack at same time till all matches up nice! not new knews to you i bet. great work mate i like how you do things. i do like to thro a set of shop camshaft covers on tho so dirt and shit dont go in head when lowering. never know whats hiding on the chain links or in the engine hoist metal. i run prp covers so i use my stock ones when lowering. cheers.

sorry for the double post but fab up some brackets to lower your motors mate will make your life way easier and you wont scratch up your cast and pan. these are the ones we made. 2 bolts and 2 nuts job done mate. i use a small ratchet strap to the transmission bellhousing just to pickup some slack and weight of the transmission and away i go. cheers your build looks awesome

I know the pain, about 2 years ago we did a exedy twin disc on my boys 32 gtr on jack stands, it wasnt as bad as we where expecting. I had just repainted the covers after scratching them on removal so i did want to scar them up again on install but ya youre right i shoulda had a shop towel or something to cover it from dust and particals.

Thanks, yea thats a good idea because trying to balance it at that angle took a few different locations. Those tabs are a good idea. Nice setup you have there. I may be moving up to bigger turbo myself in a year or so. I want 450whp but this little tomei isnt gonna do it

sorry mate wasnt trying to post pics of my engine or wreck your thread.  just showing you what i did for setup. i used to rap it around with a strong ratchet strap much like you have, i kept wrecking or scratching things slightly so i figured out a better way. only took me 10 ten engine pulls before i manned up and did 30 minutes of welding. i think your car is setup awesome and enjoy your thread. cheers. i was even thinking of making the engine pluckers really nice and having them annodized purple and maybe just keep them on there. i kind of like them lol and could make them look much cooler. might even send you a set for a good mate haha.

Haha its all good, no offense taken by posting up a pic. I think they look good, id leave them on.  Ill take a set if you make more

April 2021 update, finally got on the dyno to see what all this work did and it came up at my current goal whp which was more then expected. 398whp after the 10th hot run. I wanted 400 so im content with this for now. I dialed in a bit more timing then i had originally setup on the street. I didnt expect this out of the mx8265 without a cam, i wouldnt recommend this turbo but it came with my engine so why not use it.

    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
