Hi guys,

Been doing some data logging on my g4x, and noticed something slightly odd. My EGT's are always between 780-800C. This is at idle as well. I did some pulls, and noticed the EGT's to be the same, or very similLog.thumb.PNG.27b0871294536066c3a896a558709a46.PNGar. Havent seen it go over 800 so far, mind you I only went for a drive yday after updating my logging params.

I dont think that's right. Even at idle. I am having high ECT at idle, and I have just upgraded my AC fan to a Maradyne 14inch fan that pulls 2100~CFM, and it still has a very hard time controlling ECT when set to 85C.

What sort of EGT's do you guys see? I've had a look at my fuel and ign maps, and I dont see lot of fuel added, and not much timing either. Only 13.5~ at WOT.

Thanks guys,

@Ben C34 - Yes, its at the lambda - So I guess i can disregard my readings then. I have a spare bung, so I can throw in a EGT sensor/amp then.

@GTSBoy - Do you have a beanie on? What turbo if you dont mind me asking? My turbo gets very hot, iron exhaust housing, and its a top mount too, so prolly explains a little.

Stock 25 Neo turbo. Was same when the previous engine was RB20 with stock turbo. All on stock manifolds. I have drilled the turbine housing(s) just downstream of the inlet flange.

No beanie - just all stock heat shields. FWIW, I don't think the presence or absence of insulation on the outside will change the gas temperature to an extent that you could measure in that location anyway. Even if it changed it by 20°C, you see more variation than that just in normal usage anyway. You'd have to back to back it very carefully to be able to tell.

If you are planning on measuring DS of the turbo, you will get different temperatures that I get at the inlet. The expansion of the gas across the turbine extracts energy, so you have lower P & T according to how much work is taken out. Plus heat losses off the turbine housing and dump, subject to my thoughts on that above.

I feel these days (my personal opinion, please DYOR), especially with most of these cars on E85 that single channel EGTs are not as important as measuring EMAP / TIP.

EGTs are great, if you're measuring across all cylinders to determine equal combustion across all cylinders however the temperature isn't as important when on E85.

A single EGT is a great tool for setting the correct timing with E85. Mine sits just after the turbine outlet in the dump.

I agree that individual EGT's is ideal for injector fine tuning, but most people CBF'd with the expense or hassle. If purchasing a new manifold you'd be mad not to have EGT bungs installed though.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
