Just curious about the fuel pump people uses? Is there any worse and better ones? 


I got a Deatschwerk in my Silvia, which worked alright.  

Im looking at Walbro F90000267 450 LPH for my R32 GT-R. 

 

I guy had a WALBRO from a GTR thats been scrapped. I think its a 450lhp, i could get it for free almost since it just sitting there for no use anymore, but im not sure about to buy used fuel pumps. It works and everything, but mabye its risky to put that my car?

DW and Walbro are both decent pumps, FWIW I run a DW200 lift pump and 2x Wallahbro F90000267 via PWM.

 

And agree with @GTSBoy, just buy a new one. Keep that 2nd hand pump as a spare for troubleshooting or for moving fuel around things at home.

Since we are on the topic of fuel pumps. I have a dw300 (340lph) in tank pump. Has been in there for around 5 years predominantly with E85.

There have been no issues to date but I've been considering replacing just as a maintenance exercise. Would be replacing with exactly the same thing as I don't want the tune to get thrown off at all. What do you guys think, good idea or over kill?

DW300s tend to be hit or miss AFAIK, so if you have a good one just keep running it.

Provided your pump is supplying the correct fuel pressure and your FPR is able to regulate fuel pressure then changing to another pump should not affect the tune.

The only time this happens is when a fuel pump is under supplying the target fuel pressure and the fuel map compensates for dropping fuel pressure so when a new fuel pump that's able to supply the correct fuel pressure is installed there will be a sudden rich patch in the fuel table.

This is my concern, was also considering going to an aem 340lph but I may just leave it as is. AFR's are still where they should be throughout the rev range.

Thanks, that's what I thought but still hesitant. I briefly hit 90% injector duty at peak power. Been like that for years and done heaps of track days without blowing up. Not sure if it should be getting to that sort of %. Running Nismo 740cc taps for injectors. Making 312rwkw.  AFR is a bit rich at full tilt. Somewhere in the high 10's low 11's. 

What sort of duty cycle would you expect to see at my power level with my injectors, pump is grounded with relay mod and better wiring. Standard 25 year old alternator.

@admS15 sounds about right on E85, my old setup with the Siemens DEKA 875cc injectors were in the 90 to 92% DC mark at 372kw

I'm assuming you have some form of closed loop O2 correction running too?

For low current consumption and reliability, AEM pumps are excellent. I have found them to be the most reliable out of any pumps I've used so far. I've yet to have an AEM fail ever after killing Bosch 044s, Nismo 280s and Walbro 460s over the years.

On the blue 32 I have AEM 340lph intank and twin external AEM 400lph on E85 - I recommend them when you need to change a pump 👍

Cool, yes have closed loop running to about 200kpa then let the map do it's job. Tuna doesn't like leaving closed loop on for full throttle/boost. He only had it on for cruise/idle/low boost purposes. 

 

I am going to take it in for a power check and bit of a tickle to boost control and maybe trim a bit of fuel from the top end. 

If you where me, would you leave the pump as is or replace it with a new one?

If I do decide to change it, you have done a damn good job of steering me towards AEM. I have noticed very few online winge posts of ma pump failed bro for AEM vs the rest.

I'm pretty sure that AEM 340 lph/DW300/Aeromotive 340 lph are all really the same factory making roughly the same pump give or take. You could replace it just for fun but failures of this stuff tend to be a bathtub curve, you could get unlucky and get a DOA/early failure. If you're at the other extreme of lifetime for your existing pump then it still probably makes sense to get a new pump in there despite the chance of getting a bad pump.

Yeah the 340lph AEM, Aeromotive and DWs look pretty much identical. The AEM 400lph external though is the same physical size / envelope as a Bosch 044 but flows more and is E85 compatible, which makes them perfect for people who had 044 surge tank setups like me to replace the pumps without reinventing the wheel on existing setups. I've had good results with the AEMs so I'll be sticking with them for now.

The Walbro 525lph which we're using in the other 32 with PWM appears so far to be better than the 460, but the AMPS ! The current draw is massive at full load and lots of fuel output at low loads without PWM so not exactly a drop in solution for anyone.

I recall it's not that old, if I were you I would just take it out and check the strainer at the very least.

And since you're already there, why not replace the pump 😎

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
