Son, in this country, that is a piece of Gyprock.

f**king drywall. FFS!

I also like the autocorrect of trailer to tablet. I was reading it and thing, "what the hell drugs is he on?"

Then the photo made it clear enough.

I'm just shocked there's a euro driver on our roads who is thinking of other road users and not attempting to blind everyone. I wonder if Prank uses his indicator too...

100% is gyprock, I agree. Slip of the keyboard.

Haha! I left my indicator bulbs out to save a bit of weight.

Well now we all see it!

I did the same. Then cut it out. Then melted half of it. Then discarded it entirely. So... you're in good company.

I thought about ditching it but I was worried my bonnet would sound like a 90's Swift GTi sub-filled boot.

Gave her a nice wash today and took extra time to clean off the tree sap and tar and crap. We have a usable garage now so she'll stay cleaner longer. Took a few snaps in some nice light afterwards.

Still haven't found the headlight washer? 😂

No. I think it's gone. 😭

I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.

I never noticed a difference between mine being on or off in terms of sound etc. It isn't on the bonnet like dynamat etc. The main difference I can see it "potentially" doing is keeping some of the engine bay heat off the bonnet on the outside. So really, at most, it might be protecting the paint the tiniest bit.
But there are plenty of examples out there where people have removed it, and it doesn't hurt the paint work.

Some of the BMW community feel it offers a fire resistance of some description but I'm not sure that's accurate.

Personal experience. Those f**kers burn. And are actually a PITA to put out. Next time I walk down the back, I'll snap a photo of what the inside of the bonnet looks like when that thing ignites.

PS, powder fire extinguishers are useless on that stuff too as it's fibrous and when it ignites, it starts to pull apart. And you end up just blowing powder through a sieve effectively.

Like the big thing is, if it's fire resistant, it's job is to stop what burning? The METAL above it?

It's just to try keep heat off the bonnet paint work.

I put PPF on my new headlights which was easier than I expected. I have some for the X5 too because it's headlights are pristine for some reason and I dont think they'll stay that way.

I also put some silver wrap on these number plate holes. The colour is not a match by any standard but I think it still improves things, what do you think?

    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
