I noticed my oil on my rb25 stays gold for about 3,500km roughly. Then goes light brown after that. Probably around 4,500 mark it goes dark brown (this is me driving normally with no / minimal pulls as i blow black smoke when i boost) (when I drain the oil it's black at 5,000 no metal shavings though in the filter or oil)

I noticed now that it's been under 3,000km and it's dark brown. I think it's because I've been doing a few pulls more than usual (pulls means, in first gear going up to 5000-7000 rpm)

My oil doesn't smell like fuel at all, and isn't causing me any issues but I don't want to get bearing wear (yes I'll be getting my car tuned soon to)

I don't know if it's just me or if my oil is a bit thinner (I'm comparing brand new oil to oil that has roughly 2,500km from memory so might not be a good comparision.

Can we not just turn the boost down until you get the car tuned?

I'm not sure how to do it, I'd rather leave it to the tuner, the thing is I think it probably technically runs rich when I drive normally as well I just don't blow smoke (unless I do a hot start a bit of black smoke leaves the exhaust, but never have smoke on cold start)

What boost controller/ECU are you using?

I'll double check the model. I also got told though from my mechanic I can plug it out as well and I'll go back to wastegate pressure or something like that?

If you disconnect the line going to your wastegate, you'll run spring pressure.

You shouldn't be doing anything but driving the car to the tuner, off boost.
Doing this could well be within the boundries of comparing:

"Does my oil go black faster"
and
"Do the pistons usually stay inside the engine?"

Unplugging the wastegate solenoid should be wastegate pressure. Do not unplug the vacuum lines, leaving it at atmosphere will cause a big overboost event.

"Why did my valves burn out in my head"

"Why did my turbo get cooked?"

Not the wastegate solenoid, he was saying the actual boost controller. The vacuum line going to the boost controller he said just to tie that up so I don't have a boost leak.

Alright, I believe you 😂 Many my original mechanic has gotten a lot of things wrong lol.

This is a car that should not be being driven around. Also, an untuned car running rich due to mods is... never a thing. Also, driving an untuned car long enough that you're inspecting the oil is all sorts of wrong.

You are speedrunning the Car-Darwin awards here dude.

I get it, you want to have fun and be cool in shiny toy.

All valid. It's tuned but a poor tune lol. I'm only inspecting the oil because I did more pulls that usual as mentioned. If I don't do any pulls it stays clean for a decent amount of time, but I will get it fixed! It's just taking forever because everyone is busy.

Just don't add up for me.

What is the go with the tuning on your car, who tuned it? Was it put on a dyno?

Also, I'm still waiting to find out what type of ECU and boost controller you have lol.

That's the thing I have no idea who tuned it and not sure if it was dynoed, and is why I need to get it tuned because I don't have paperwork. In regards to the ecu, I checked that a while back and I couldn't find it lol, it is aftermarket though my last mechanic told me. Anyhow I'll just leave it for the tuner.

Ah ok. It would be a lot more accurate to simply say, the car has not been tuned.

Blowing black smoke on boost is so crazy far from any state of 'tune' that I would not even call it poorly tuned.

Do you know where the ECU lives? It takes about 10 seconds to access the ECU and we could solve this mystery.

    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
