I bought an off-the-shelf exhaust for my car late last year and I've had it on and off about 4 times trying to get it to sit right.

The middle slip-on part does not go all the way on and its causing the rear to be pushed back, protruding a lot. The rear hangers all sit below and to the back rather than just directly below. Also, I've had to add bigger (longer) mounts at the back as the exhaust hits the bumper after a short drive and it heating up.

What sucks is, the first time I put it on it looked the best, each subsequent time got worse 🤣

This was a cheap exhaust (duh) and the shop has been less than exceptional with support but at the end of the day I do like it and it sounds great so I'd like to keep it but just get it fixed.

Exhaust shops are not that common any more. Anybody know any place on the north of Sydney? I guess I can just check in at a few places near me, most are for 4wd's and lifting though! 😆

I was considering modifying it myself, but the angles scare me.

Protrusion looks pretty good there.

Yea - Needs a side shot TBH. Other than that, actually looks pretty good. My OCD would want to see it tuck 'higher' but melty melty is a concern.

Oh really? Maybe I'm being silly. I'll get some more shots. I had it higher but found that it went too high after a drive, I never knew this but exhausts can move around a bit when hot (makes sense, just never knew) and when it was higher it would make nice cooking plastic smells. That said, I could put some heat tape on a'la 90's R33 exhausts :D

Not sure how broadly you define Northside :) but Castle Hill Exhaust are still around and could sort it.

Ha, I've spent a lot of my life in castle hill waiting for cars to be done. I think I'd prefer something closer but thanks D.

I'd want an even MORE side on view. More or less you want to make sure the outlet is actually square with the outermost part of the bumper. Or you end up getting soot all over your bumper from your hektik exhaust. In any case, it looks pretty close.

I think the way to fix this is probably more of an overhaul at an exhaust specialty shop if you want tips that are rounded off or sit nicely with the bumper but have proper clearance and don't move - Probably more of a redesign than a quick fix. I've pencilled in my own exhaust with its own various problems, pinholes, PITA fitment, and other issues and can see myself going to a shop and saying "JUST DO THIS BUT BETTER?"

Which is gonna work better than any more small fixes. I'm gonna chime in here officially with "from an outsider perspective this exhaust looks fine so this is self OCD probably" (which I also suffer from)

Love your work guys, I think I'll leave it then. I was a bit self conscious about how it looks but you've convinced me its fine.

@GTSBoy I'll just rip down a chain link fence and cram the pipes into my tips. There's tonnes of room. We can call it BozoEuro.

Tips look fine to me......but

Boring stuff: Legalities - Vehicle standards notes that exhausts cannot extend to a point where they could cause injury

Scary stuff: Mrs cuts open her shin putting stuff in the boot (ensure you have some bandaids and shiny jewellery handy)

Easy solution to both of those. Put a split bit of garden hose on each one. Attractive and practical!

I once hit my knee on an exhaust on my sisters Suzuki Sierra after she drove it her *normal* way. My knee looked like porridge for weeks.

Bec and my daughters never go near this car. I can see one of my dogs losing an ear though. 🤔

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
