well it's fitted, and still not finished... the installer wasn't sure if a genuine nissan connector needed to be used, and didn't want to connect the one supplied in case it damaged something... *sighs...

I know that others have used it.

So can anyone give me a step by step for teh wiring and mounting of the connector (PICS WOULD BE GREAT!!!!)

thanks heaps

- Matt

(btw i haven't even had a chance to check my connector, but is it rectangle one like in the previous pics??? do hire trailer places still have a lead for that style of connector?

ahh right, i'm just used to the old school round ones then i guess... *curses new cars LOL

on another note for future reference with max towbars here is a way to wire up the plug (direct from MAX)

1. Using a Multimeter (set on the 12v DC scale) or a test light, ensure the earth wire is properly grounded.

2. Route the trailer plug Yellow, Brown, Red and White wires to the LHS of the vehicle for connection to the LHS taillight wiring.

3. Route the trailer plug Green wire to the RHS taillight wiring.

4. Turn on the vehicle park lights and using the tester determine the live wire feeding the park lights. Connect this to rhe Brown trailer plug wire using a white 'scotch

lock' provided.

5. Using the same method, identify the LHS turn signal, the RHS signal and the stop light. Connect them respectively to the Yellow, Green and Red wires or the trailer

plug.

6. Connect the vehicle earth wire (usually black) to the White wire of the trailer plug.

In summary, the trailer plug colour code is:

Yellow - Left Hand Signal

Green - Right Hand Signal

Brown - Tail Light

Red - Stop Light

White - Earth

cheers

will the "max" bar suit all models?

i'm looking to buy a series 2- i assume the chassis are identical? The stagea will become my daily/ and double as towcar for my track evo

anyone had one of these bars shipped to QLD? What was approx total cost including purchase, shipping and install?

Cheers,

Mitch

Series 1 & 2 versions of the C34 should be identical, so no issues with fitting...

yes... mine is on my S2 - used it to tow my cefiro out to mallala last weekend... it will be towing it out again to DA/SD on the 24th May

how does it go towing the ceffi? I image the weight would be pretty decent

do you have any tow support mods? ie modifed suspension etc?

My trailer is 600kgs and evo approx 1300kgs- i've always used a range rover to tow this. Anything to look out for if i start towing with stagea?

Cheers,

Mitch

I got mine for $650 fitted. I'm not sure how much the individual bar is without fitment, but you could imagine postage not being cheap, they're not light.

:P Ouch!

I got quoted $500 for mine. When I get the time, I'll have one fitted.

I'll be needing to tow my bike to the MotoGP later this year, so I've got some time.

i found it towed exceptionally well. it has standard everything except for the 34 gtr rims.

being a S2 you have the larger oil cooler standard, and i found that water temps did not budge at all even going up a steep hill at about 80km/h

even with the IRS i found it didn't sag anywhere near as a VZ commodore i used to tow with.

is your towbar a "max" special?

i was quoted today $675... the price seems to be increasing every week- i'm happy to pay it if its a quality bar, but inflation these days...

EDIT: $650 is the supplied price- postage is extra, obviously doesnt include install

I tried to fit up R34 GTR rims to mine and it hit the coilover. (in the rear from memory) Is the series 2 pickups different or something?

Can you send me a pic with R34 rims on?

    • Hi all, I need to get this HKS SLD attached to my stock ECU because I've now got the German autobahn and faster European circuits to contend with.  The car is a manual 2dr ER34 with an AT ECU and I've realised the AT ECU has two pins for speed sensor signals: Pin 29: Vehicle speed sensor signal (Vehicle speed sensor 2) Pin *58: Output shaft rotation sensor signal (Vehicle speed sensor 1) - *RB25DET A/T model only Before I go butchering this harness, is anyone sure of which pin is the correct one for signal adjustment? The attached document from HKS indicates pin 29 but I found this situation mentioned in the following thread on a different forum (R34 GTT Auto Trans Speed Cut Problem | Zerotohundred) mentioning pin 58 needing to be altered by member zephuros, albeit it seems to be for an RSM-GP and the info appears to be old.  R34_All_Workshop_Manual-pages-2.pdf R34_All_Workshop_Manual-pages-3.pdf R34_All_Workshop_Manual-pages-1.pdf HKS SLD Vehicle Pin out P59-P70 ER34-pages.pdf

    • What is the "compromise" that you think will happen? Are you thinking that something will get damaged? The only things you have to be concerned about with spherical jointed suspension arms are; Arguments with the constabulary wrt their legality (they are likely to be illegal for road use without an engineering certificatation, and that may not be possible to obtain). A lot more NVH transmitted through to the passengers (which is hardly a concern for those with a preference for good handling, anyway). Greatly increased inspection and maintenance requirements (see above points, both).   It is extremely necessary to ask what car you are talking about. Your discussion on strut tops, for example, would be completely wrong for an R chassis, but be correct for an S chassis. R32s have specific problems that R33/4 do not have. Etc. I have hardened rubber bushes on upper rear control arms and traction rods. Adjustable length so as to be able to set both camber and bump steer. You cannot contemplate doing just the control arms and not the traction arms. And whatever bushing you have in one you should have in the other so that they have similar characteristics. Otherwise you can get increased oddness of behaviour as one bushing flexes and the other doesn't, changing the alignment between them. I have stock lower rear arms with urethane bushes. I may make changes here, these are are driven by the R32's geometry problems, so I won't discuss them here unless it proves necessary. I have spherical joints in the front caster rods. I have experienced absolutely no negatives and only positives from doing so. They are massively better than any other option. I have sphericals in the FUCAs, but this is driven largely by the (again) R32 specific problems with the motion of those arms. I just have to deal with the increased maintenance required. Given how much better the front end behaves with the sphericals in there.....I'd probably be tempted to go away from my preference (which is not to have sphericals on a road car, for 2 of the 3 reasons in the bulleted list above), just to gain those improvements. And so my preference for not using sphericals (in general) on a road car should be obvious. I use them judiciously, though, as required to solve particular problems.
