Thanks for the info Stag250

I suppose I will get my local guy to design and engineer a bar for me.

MXfly if you are in Sydney i wiillet you know how I get on, maybe you can save on design etc.

Murray

Thanks Murray,

Or even better, I am happy to split the costs with you in the design, engineering, etc. Pm me when you're ready to go ahead and we can work something out

Hi All

I am trying to have a towbar fitted to my M35.

The towbar designer needs to know the GVM (gross vehicle mass) of an M35.

This is something that is on the rego papers of most vehicles, not on mine however.

I have the weight of the car unloaded on my papers.

The GVM is the max loaded weight. eg 1600kg + 500kg load.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Andy

Hows your car go. Did you import yourself.

Anything special fitted.

Murray

Hi Murray

Car is going really well. Just had new sway bars fitted and new bilstein springs and shocks go in next week. Can't wait.

I got it through North Shore Prestige. The car is pretty much stock but for the suspension upgrades.

How did you go with the towbar?

Cheers

Andy

Go to your local state Tip "rubbish Dump" Use their weighbridge for free .... LOL I did

I drove up and asked her for a price list to drop off rubbish and whilst I was at the window looked at the weight then left. Not 100% accurate but pretty darn close 99%

mine is series 1 not too, but the standard stuff was too soft (drooped at the rear). I put in sydneykid's springs and shocks in on the highest setting (about stock height) and its pretty good. still low at the rear when it is loaded but much better than stock (and I wouldn't go any harder in suspension since its a daily driver)

duncan is there any chance you could post up a cuple of pics of your tow bar on the car and a pic of your car trailer. i am about to start building my own trailer and tow bar to tow my s13 race car around. i preety much have my plans made up for my trailer but i read through this post and it was mentioned that you have stabliser bars. as i plan to tow long distance i thought these might be a good idear. any info links or pics whould be good. who built your trailer in the first place?

thanks

nope that's gary with the stabiliser bars - I've been meaning to fit some but never got around to it. trailer is homemade special. but have done a fair bit of testing with the race car at different points on the trailer to find the best balance.

will try and get some detailed pics on the weekend - bump the thread on friday

just wondering if anyone in Adeliade has had a bar fitted or a car with one.... Not looking to tow anything really heavy just a trailer with 1 or 2 the motorcross bikes, small speed boat and sometimes the bike rack with the downhill bike, so it really doesnt have to be that overly built??

Cheers in advance,

chris

I rang Max in ACT and spoke to him about his towbars.

He has a jig and is happy to build and transport a 2000kg towbar to anywhere.

The price is $560+ frieght.

As mentioned before this is his design and rating you will need to get the towbar localy fitted and certified.

Does anyone have details to get hold of max? ive had a quick glance through the thread and couldnt see anything

Cheers

Jnr

    • Slimline sub on the rear parcel shelf is doable. Pioneer TS-WX140DA is only 70mm high.
    • People like Johnny Dose Bro might be laughing at my post because I accidentally added 100mm to my numbers. 350-355 is indeed the lower limit. 450 is off-road Skyline spec.
    • What is the "compromise" that you think will happen? Are you thinking that something will get damaged? The only things you have to be concerned about with spherical jointed suspension arms are; Arguments with the constabulary wrt their legality (they are likely to be illegal for road use without an engineering certificatation, and that may not be possible to obtain). A lot more NVH transmitted through to the passengers (which is hardly a concern for those with a preference for good handling, anyway). Greatly increased inspection and maintenance requirements (see above points, both).   It is extremely necessary to ask what car you are talking about. Your discussion on strut tops, for example, would be completely wrong for an R chassis, but be correct for an S chassis. R32s have specific problems that R33/4 do not have. Etc. I have hardened rubber bushes on upper rear control arms and traction rods. Adjustable length so as to be able to set both camber and bump steer. You cannot contemplate doing just the control arms and not the traction arms. And whatever bushing you have in one you should have in the other so that they have similar characteristics. Otherwise you can get increased oddness of behaviour as one bushing flexes and the other doesn't, changing the alignment between them. I have stock lower rear arms with urethane bushes. I may make changes here, these are are driven by the R32's geometry problems, so I won't discuss them here unless it proves necessary. I have spherical joints in the front caster rods. I have experienced absolutely no negatives and only positives from doing so. They are massively better than any other option. I have sphericals in the FUCAs, but this is driven largely by the (again) R32 specific problems with the motion of those arms. I just have to deal with the increased maintenance required. Given how much better the front end behaves with the sphericals in there.....I'd probably be tempted to go away from my preference (which is not to have sphericals on a road car, for 2 of the 3 reasons in the bulleted list above), just to gain those improvements. And so my preference for not using sphericals (in general) on a road car should be obvious. I use them judiciously, though, as required to solve particular problems.
    • Easiest way to know is to break out the multimeter and measure it when cold, then measure all the resistances again once it gets hot enough to misfire. Both the original ignitor and the J Replace version. Factory service manual will have the spec for the terminal measurements.
    • Yes that sounds right. Cars currently in the shop for the engine work. Will need to remeasure .. but yes I think I must be targeting 45cm from fender.
