who's doing it Eric?

Always good to know who will polish stuff

A friend Dan. He is a car detailer and is also doing metal polishing as well. He did someones turbo recently and it came up like a mirror.

He also polished and sealed my headlights. He did someone else's on here too but can't remember who it was.

If you want his details let me know.

Any one got access to a Ball joint Press?

probably, but not exactly sure what you need.

do you need to separate a ball joint from some sort of rod end, or do you need to press a ball joint out of a control arm.

if it's number 1 I can bring one down tomorrow, if its number 2 I could do it over the weekend (but I guess you could get any local shop to do it too)

Number 2. Press out and Press in Newies in the 31. I'll likely just get Pedders to do it but I'm replacing all the Bushes in the 31 aswell.

By the time I take it to them I'm hoping to get all Bushes done and Reduce their quote from over $500 down to about $50. :D

DIY FTW! :D

yeah I much prefer doing everything I can.....at least that way if a mistake happens I only have me to blame.

I've had too many bad experiences with shops over the years, they all make mistakes, and some of them are really f**king rude when they do.

you are doing this job right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOLVV7HYkZs. I'd take it to a mechanical workshop rather than pedders personally....like I said, if you get stuck I can bring it back and do it next weekend but a press is a pretty common tool.

I recently did all the bushes on the ute, the only ones that were really an issue were the front LCA inner bushes in the chassis, they were an arsehole to remove....couldn't press them out with a g-clamp (saw your cool tool  ), ended up burning and recipro sawing them out.

Yep, just like in that vid. And yeah I was considering using a Regular mechanic but thought Pedders being all about suspension etc could do the balljoints while they do the bushes.

Having had some good success with the LCA bushes, I'll have a crack at the Upper and lower trailing arm bushes and pan hard rod.

If successful, I'll just need to get Ball joints done somewhere.

Save a buck and learn a heap! Lovin' it. ;)

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
