[EDIT: This is now my "what is wrong with the car at the moment" thread.]

[EDIT: It will also be my "what I'm upgrading/doing with car at the moment"]

[scroll to the bottom to see what's doin with the car!!]

Sweetas.

I might be in for some track days comin up since my car didn't blow up after my fire. It's been re-wired a little now and hopefully won't be bursting into flames in the future.

After replacing a ****load of parts I don't think I have too many left to go and I might actually be back on the road for longer than a week!

When's the next time you guys are cruising/track-daying?

I call it as I see it.

I am helping cc in any way that I can to get the car in safe working order. There is some seriously bodgy stuff on the car that is frustrating the hell out of cc.. eg, the engine mounts didn't have nuts on them on EITHER SIDE. I don't even know what was holding the engine in.

There there is all the disconnected vac hoses, and exposed wires (causing engine fires etc).. The bride seat was only bolted in with 3 bolts as the wrong seat rail was used. The list goes on...

I guess it will all get fixed in time, but I just hope some of this doesn't cause a real serious safety issue before he fixes it

I agree with you too_much_boost........safety first. But how did it get a safety certificate to transfer the rego with only 3 bolts holding in the seat? Or without the engine mount bolts?

I heard CC bought the car pretty cheap..........was it cheap enough to SORTA warrant the screw around?

Cars not registered in my name yet RS so it has not gone through engineering.

The few probs too_much has outlined are nothing compared to everything else that's happened and I still have to fix.

So no.. for the price it really wasn't worth it (ie. i should have imported my own).

Not good to hear CC...........but i suppose to a certain degree it comes with buying a modified vehicle.

I hope you get out of it for as little money as possible.

Can i ask what you paid for yours? I have one coming from Japan soon with similar gear.

Cheers mate

  • 2 weeks later...

I think I'll keep adding to this thread as shit keeps ****ing up - so please check back often to see if you can help me (maybe you tripped an old lady this week or kicked someone down the stairs at the train station and need something for the guilt.)

On Saturday I was rolling down a road (as you do) and noticed the car was burbling and losing power when I applied the accel, sorta sif a intercooler pipe had fallen off.

I pulled over and checked all the piping and it was fine.

I couldn't get the car started again. I noticed when I turned the key to ON I couldn't hear my fuel pump come on, as if usually the case, instead my injectors just go "clickclick" really quickly instead.

Had to get it towed.. again.. *sigh*

Will keep posted as to the outcome.

Thats no good man :P A car with continuing problems is just a nightmare.

Sorry to hear its got so many troubles.. over in japan, sometimes there idea of "fixing" isn't much better than your very worst b-grade mechanic over here - you hear some terrible stories.

Wow. that sounds awful mate. You should have bought my GTI-R instead :uh-huh:

I'm sure once it's sorted it'll all be ok. There is nothing so bad on a car that can't be fixed with enough time and money...

Richard

Sorry to read about your dramas, i had a run of bad luck, i think i have turned it around now, thank god. Hang in there, you bought the car becuase you obviously liked it...so hang in there and things will come good.

My old R31 GTSX had been modded by a few questionable local folk as well...took 6 months to get sorted, but was worth it in the end.

For what its worth if you need any running around done in Melb let me know, there seems to be plenty of Ceffie owners down here, and if its a matter of sussing out parts then i can help pick/post etc etc

YES I actually thought about that because I remember speaking to you - I *should* have bought your car.

I'm hoping for not too much time and money - I've had a bomb project car before and this ones rapidly making that one look like a dream.

Check the battery voltage. That tick tick could be the starter trying to engage but not having enough voltage...

Could explain the fuel pump not working too

Good point - I should have explained tho the tick tick is definately from the injectors (or near them) - the starter DOES tick over fine. I've had a flat battery before - never known em to cut out while driving though ya reckon it's still worth getting a voltemeter?

Thanks Roy, no running around in Melbourne required but thanks.... 6months .. dono if I have the staying power, my old bomb car used to get me lots of girls which offset the fact it was shit :(

Thanks for the thoughts guys :Paranoid: - make me feel a bit better!

The fuel pump is triggered by the ecu through the main under dash plug, incidently one of the wires that gets chopped off the rb20 loom and re connected to the sr loom during the conversion. It may be worth checking. It could also be an issue with the fuel pump speed controller, also triggered by the ecu which may explainthe issue occuring when you try to accelerate. May also be worth putting 12V across the fuel pump terminals and see if it is ok or has seized up.

When you get the injector clicking is the car actually turning over? If so then i'd rule out battery and dud alternator and dud connection between them.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
