I've got a Nissan 200sx RS13 (UK spec, had the CA18DET engine in her) (just thought i would point that out so you know what car the engine is now in)

I’m planning to run something like 300-350rwhp, but I’m a little unsure of what I really need/want, I need friendly spool up and a healthy top end for long drifts, I think the RS13 is a little lighter then the Skyline but unsure once again (I’m sure you will tell me for sure :P )

I’ve been looking at the HKS GT-RS, I’ve been told it’s a good turbo and will do the job, but not having much people around here with RB20DETs its hard to tell how good this will be, I know you can’t really say for sure with out me pointing out the rest of my spec but if you can give me an indication of what would be best as its not all about out right power with this sport (as you know) drivability is the order of the day :D

I think i've read the bottom end is good for 450bhp, is that right.

If you can, tell me the spec i would need to run good power small lag?? I'm saving for a high spec rebuild :D

HKS GT-RS, HKS GT3037s, HKS GT2835 pro s, along those lines :D

Any help would be appreciated :D

Superclarkey,

if you want something cheap and nasty for drift a T04E with manifold should cost less than a grand. Its got a nice low RPM spool

On a best case scenario with an RB20DET running it at 15psi, you should get the following:

2000rpm - 5psi

3000rpm - 10psi

4000-7000rpm - 15psi

should be good for around 300hp.

An HKS 3037 is similar in specs I think. A lot of guys use the 2530 as a standard bolton upgrade for the RB25DET's.

Cool, this would be better then the HKS GT-RS :P

Parts i've got so far, Tomie Pistons and rods, HKS steel head gasket, head ported and polished Tomie 260degree cams, custom plenum, nismo 550 injectors, z32, trust massive intercooler, blitz nur spec, HKS filter, Power FC (sorting at the moment)...........you get the idea.

What are the spes of this T04E ??

cheers

my r32 is an ex drift car from japan and its has an rb20det with a td06....

this has huge top end power currently its only putting out about 185 rwkw on 10psi but the diff is screwed.... so should be about 240ish on 16psi hopefully

Interested to hear how you go at 16psi,

I was making mid 180rwkws at 8psi, with 17psi it made 222rwkws. I would have thought it could make a bit more power with the additional 9psi... but meh, its a dyno figure, it feels pretty damn spritely at that power / boost level:)

PMSL, most of my build spec has already changed :( (RB24DET on its way :()

Anyways just got my HKS exhasut manifold with T3 flange, was thinking of getting a GT3071R maybe in .64a/r with 4 inch outlet and 4 inch inlet, external wastgated (what size wastgate shoud i use)

whats your thoughts on that ??

the GT3071R with an A/R .63 would be ideal if u were building your engine as a RB24, otherwise a little more responsive would be the GT3071R with 90trim exhaust wheel. this is identical to the HKS GT2835R.

44mm external w/gate (Tial to be exact) should do u perfectly.

it sounds like it's gonna be a nice toy to have, enjoy

@Morgs

Yeah building it myself at the moment, put the order thought for the 82mm Tomei pistons just got to await for them to arrive :rofl:

The crank has gone off for cheacking and polish and should be back ready to start machining the block :D

I'm looking into how to go about having the head machined out too to take the 82mm pistons, so i guess i will be able to stick with near normal steel headgasket and it will lower the CR a bit :)

@RS500

Yeah seems to me to be a good turbo and nice map, i don't know if i want the .64a/r don't know if it may surge or not ??

@180bfj20det

Yeah the GT30R is a great turbo but i feel its a little big for what i want, i must say power is not everything for what i need.

Dude you have too much money :rofl:. But damn thats gona be one hella awesome engine/S13. People wont know whats hit them!

Im not sure what turbo, but if all is set up well even something of decent size should come on ok, just might have to drive the car a little different to cope :D

With the 2.4L and compression, and i recall you are goign to be runnign cams etc, then id be looking at a HKS2835. If your a Garrett guru like some folk here and know the general equiv then id be running one of the m with an external gate and nice tubular manifold wrapped up and bracketed off the block.

With this style of 420-450hp turbo you will have some serious stomp and make around 260-280-rwkws with good midrange.

If you want a bit more then i would be tempted to run a 500hp GT30, but having now been in a few GT30 RB25s id say the GT28 series turbo is the go for an all round performer. Basically because i have the Trust equiv on a std RB20 and im stoked with the performance, but a new BB Garret would on paper be a bit nicer

Yeah sounds good dude, only problem i've already got the manifold :Oops: i hope its to your liking as its to mine :D

Just fitted it as it only arrived from japan yesterday morning :D :wassup:

HKS Cast T3 flanged external wastegated exhust manifold

;)

I'm going to have to look into the HKS GT2835 as it pops up alot, is it the same spec then (or near) as the GT3071R from garret?

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
